The Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Makkah region achieved a remarkable societal and humanitarian accomplishment during the year 2025 AD, as official statistics revealed the registration of more than half a million volunteer hours, reflecting the growing societal awareness of the importance of humanitarian work and the alignment of the Authority’s goals with major national aspirations.
Figures reflect the scale of the donation
The Authority announced in its annual report that the total number of volunteer hours reached 500,559, completed through 10,358 diverse volunteer opportunities. These opportunities witnessed a wide turnout from the region's residents, with the number of participating volunteers reaching 57,982. These figures were distributed between 41,837 male and 16,145 female volunteers, highlighting the growing role of Saudi women in the field of emergency and humanitarian work.
National context and ambitious vision
This achievement comes within the framework of realizing the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which has established volunteer work as one of its fundamental pillars, aspiring to reach one million volunteers annually. The Red Crescent sector serves as a prime example of implementing this vision, transforming volunteering from mere individual initiatives into organized institutional work that contributes to national development and strengthens the values of social solidarity.
Geographical distribution and vital areas
In terms of geographical distribution, Jeddah topped the list with 3,557 volunteer opportunities, followed by Mecca with 2,713, due to its unique role in receiving Umrah and Hajj pilgrims, and then Taif with 1,458 opportunities. The volunteering opportunities spanned a variety of fields, including field ambulance services, administration, humanitarian work, as well as awareness campaigns, media outreach, and environmental initiatives.
The strategic importance of the Makkah region
Volunteer work in the Makkah region holds particular strategic and international importance due to its religious significance and the millions of pilgrims it receives throughout the year. Volunteers directly contribute to supporting government efforts to serve Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, thereby enhancing the efficiency of emergency services and reducing response times during peak periods and religious seasons. This, in turn, positively impacts the Kingdom's image on the world stage.
A call to continue giving
The Authority concluded its report by emphasizing its continued commitment to enabling institutional volunteer work and raising the efficiency of volunteers through training and qualification, inviting those wishing to join this humanitarian system to register through the “Volunteer with Us” platform to contribute to saving lives and serving the community.
