The Deputy Governor of Makkah and the Minister of Industry review the industrial and mining initiatives in the region, with the aim of attracting investments, developing local content and creating job opportunities within the framework of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

In a move reflecting the growing interest in promoting comprehensive economic development in various regions of the Kingdom, His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, received at the Emirate headquarters in Jeddah, His Excellency the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Mr. Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, and his accompanying delegation of leaders of the industrial system.

Strategic context: Industry as an engine for economic diversification

This meeting comes within the context of the Kingdom's major economic transformation, as the National Industrial Strategy aims to make Saudi Arabia a leading industrial power and a global logistics hub. The Makkah region plays a pivotal role in this strategy due to its strategic geographic location overlooking the Red Sea and its proximity to Jeddah Islamic Port, one of the largest ports in the region, in addition to its high population density, which provides a large consumer market and a promising workforce.

The importance of the projects and their expected impact

The initiatives reviewed focus on several strategic axes aimed at achieving a positive and sustainable impact at the local and regional levels:

  • Enhancing the investment environment: The projects aim to create an attractive environment for local and foreign investments by providing incentives and facilities, and developing the infrastructure in industrial cities, which contributes to the localization of advanced industries and the transfer of technology.
  • Developing local content: Supporting local content is one of the main objectives, as initiatives seek to increase the proportion of local components in industrial projects, which strengthens the national small and medium enterprises and supports local supply chains.
  • Creating job opportunities: These industrial and mining projects are expected to directly contribute to providing thousands of quality job opportunities for the sons and daughters of the Makkah region, thus reducing unemployment rates and supporting social stability and human development.

This ongoing coordination between the Emirate of Makkah Region and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources confirms the integration between government agencies to remove obstacles for investors and accelerate the pace of project implementation, in order to ensure balanced and sustainable development befitting the region’s status and to contribute effectively to building a prosperous and diversified national economy.
