In a new national achievement reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leadership in innovation and serving pilgrims, His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, received the Guinness World Records certificate for the "Health Innovation Hackathon for Hajj and Umrah." This took place during his reception at the Governorate headquarters in Jeddah of His Highness Prince Saud bin Jalawi, Governor of Jeddah, in the presence of health sector leaders in the region.
This global recognition comes after the hackathon was officially recognized as the largest health innovation gathering of its kind in the world, highlighting the scale of the efforts made by the Jeddah Health Cluster II and the “Let’s Take the Initiative” program, in strategic partnership with more than 16 governmental and private entities, whose efforts were combined to achieve this record.
Details of the achievement and its strategic dimensions
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Ministry of Health branch in Jeddah Governorate, Dr. Meshal bin Mesfer Al-Sayyali, and the CEO of the Second Health Cluster in Jeddah, Dr. Shadi Al-Khayyat. His Royal Highness the Deputy Governor of Makkah listened to a detailed explanation of the stages of organizing this global event, which began last October and attracted more than 500 participants from among young national talents and innovators.
The hackathon included four main tracks covering all aspects of healthcare: innovation in health products, innovation in logistics and medical services, improving the health experience of pilgrims, and innovation in health media and awareness. These tracks are a fundamental pillar for developing the healthcare system during busy religious seasons.
Context of the event and keeping pace with Vision 2030
This achievement is not merely a record; it aligns with the Kingdom's strategic direction within Vision 2030, specifically the Guests of God Service Program, which aims to facilitate the journey of pilgrims and Umrah performers and provide them with the highest quality healthcare services. Technology and innovation play a pivotal role in addressing the health challenges that may arise from large gatherings, as digital and smart solutions contribute to rapid emergency response and enhanced preventative measures.
The hackathon's entry into the Guinness World Records reflects the Kingdom's commitment to harnessing all its human and technological capabilities to ensure the safety of pilgrims to the Two Holy Mosques. It also underscores the importance of partnerships between the public, private, and non-profit sectors in generating innovative and practical ideas, thus reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a global hub for innovation in mass gathering medicine and health crisis management.
Youth empowerment and social responsibility
In addition to its health objectives, the hackathon achieved significant social goals, empowering Saudi youth and providing them with opportunities to actively participate in national development, while also fostering a culture of social responsibility and institutional innovation. The solutions generated from this hackathon serve as the foundation for promising future projects that will undoubtedly contribute to improving the quality of life and enhancing services for millions of Muslims worldwide.
