The National Center for Meteorology issued an important weather report, indicating significant weather fluctuations and forecasts of moderate to heavy rainfall in the Madinah and its governorates, starting tomorrow, Saturday. This forecast is part of the center's ongoing monitoring of weather conditions across the Kingdom to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
Details of the rainfall situation in Medina
The center explained in its report that the weather conditions will include light to moderate rainfall across a wide area, including Medina, and the governorates of Yanbu, Khaybar, Badr, Al-Hanakiya, Wadi Al-Fara, and Al-Mahd. This weather pattern will persist for varying periods, necessitating caution while traveling on highways between these governorates.
In a significant development in the weather, the governorates of Al-Ula and Al-Ais intermittent rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy. The meteorological department indicated that these fluctuations will not be limited to rain alone, but may also be accompanied by other weather phenomena, including:
- Dust storms reduce horizontal visibility.
- Hailstones fell.
- High waves in coastal areas, especially near Yanbu.
- Activity of fast downdrafts that may exceed 60 km/h.
Geographical nature and the impact of flash floods
These warnings are of paramount importance given the geographical and geological nature of the Madinah region. The area contains numerous large valleys and ravines that can fill with rainwater very quickly, leading to flash floods. Governorates such as Al-Ula and Al-Ais are characterized by mountainous terrain and rugged valleys, making flash floods highly likely during heavy rainfall. The center has warned of this possibility, specifically highlighting the potential for flash floods in low-lying areas.
Safety and prevention guidelines
Given these circumstances, the National Center of Meteorology and relevant authorities have urged everyone to exercise caution. Weather and safety experts consistently emphasize the importance of:
- Stay completely away from flood channels and valley bottoms.
- Do not risk crossing valleys, no matter how low the water level is.
- Follow the reports and alerts issued by the Meteorology and Civil Defense authorities in real time.
- Adherence to safety instructions is essential to protect lives and property.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through the National Center for Meteorology, is working to use the latest technologies in weather monitoring and observation, including advanced radars and satellites, to provide accurate information that contributes to protecting lives and supporting decision-making, especially in areas with high population density or tourist activity, such as Medina and Al-Ula.
