In a pioneering step aimed at enhancing the quality of services provided to pilgrims, the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques announced the development and equipping of five luggage storage centers in the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque. This strategic initiative aims to facilitate the movement of worshippers and pilgrims, and to enhance the comfort and organization of those visiting the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, reflecting the ongoing commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for worship.
The Kingdom's historic efforts in serving the pilgrims
Throughout history, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has given great attention and meticulous care to developing the infrastructure and logistics services in Mecca and Medina. These efforts have not been limited to massive architectural expansions, but have also included improving even the smallest details that affect the comfort of pilgrims. The development of baggage storage centers is part of a long series of development projects adopted by the wise leadership, which aligns with the objectives of the Guests of God Service Program, one of the most important programs of Saudi Vision 2030. This program aims to bring about a qualitative shift in the visitor experience, from the moment of arrival until departure, to ensure that the rituals are performed with ease and peace of mind.
Strategic distribution to facilitate access in the Grand Mosque
The General Authority explained that the baggage storage centers are strategically located to ensure maximum efficiency. In the Grand Mosque in Mecca, four main centers have been designated in high-traffic locations. These include: the western courtyard behind restrooms number (6), Ajyad Street next to restrooms number (1), the eastern courtyard next to the Mecca Library, and the services building in the third Saudi expansion after Schutz (3). To facilitate the drop-off and pick-up process, designated points have been established at the main entrances to the Grand Mosque: King Abdulaziz Gate (1), King Fahd Gate (79), Umrah Gate, and Gate (100).
Expanding the service to include the Prophet's Mosque
In Medina, and in its commitment to providing the same level of service, the Authority established a new luggage storage center in the Prophet's Mosque. This vital center is located between exits 365 and 366, serving visitors to the Prophet's Mosque and facilitating their movement within the courtyards and facilities with complete freedom and without the burden of carrying bags and personal belongings during prayers and visits.
The positive impact of developing baggage storage facilities in the Two Holy Mosques
This organizational development is of paramount importance and will have a far-reaching positive impact at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, these centers contribute to more efficient crowd management and reduce congestion in corridors and courtyards, thereby enhancing security and safety. Regionally and internationally, millions of Muslims who flock annually from around the world will directly benefit from the facilitation of their spiritual journey. Providing secure and free luggage storage eliminates one of the most significant logistical challenges faced by visitors, especially those traveling directly to the Grand Mosque in Mecca or the Prophet's Mosque in Medina.
The authority confirmed that luggage storage at these centers can last up to four consecutive hours, and this high-quality service is provided completely free of charge, 24/7. This step reflects the ongoing and tireless efforts to enhance the quality of services offered to pilgrims, and underscores the commitment of the relevant authorities to dedicate all available material and human resources to serving Islam and Muslims, and to providing a spiritually enriching environment free from any obstacles.
