The General Authority for the Care of Affairs launched The Grand Mosque andThe Prophet's Mosque A unique project involving the installation of 350 directional signs to code the columns inside the corridors of the Grand Mosque.

This is with the aim of raising the efficiency of spatial guidance and facilitating the movement of worshippers, pilgrims and visitors in order to ensure an easy faith experience in conjunction with the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan .

This project relies on the precise distribution of directional signs on the pillars to enable pilgrims to quickly find their way to their various destinations within the Holy Mosque in Mecca with ease and peace of mind.

clear visual identity

The new signage's directional identity is based on the use of specific color codes and identification numbers linked to the names of the main gates and major geographical areas in the Grand Mosque, such as the northern, southern, eastern, and western sides, allowing users to pinpoint their locations with high accuracy.

The authority was keen to include sub-letters arranged alphabetically in accordance with the smooth flow of the pilgrims’ movement, in order to provide a consistent guidance system that is easy to read and understand from different angles and distances in order to serve the millions of human flows.

Advanced geometric distribution

In implementing the project, the Authority took into account the architectural characteristics of each area within the Grand Mosque, where the ring distribution was adopted in the portico building to keep pace with the movement of the circumambulators, while the radial pattern was applied in the third expansion to ensure clarity of vision from multiple angles.

While the second expansion was subject to a parallel horizontal distribution pattern that aligns with the main walkways.

The range of these panels extends axisically from the Holy Kaaba to the outer gates, providing connected guidance routes that enhance the quality of spatial organization.

Improving the quality of services

The project to code the columns is expected to bring about a qualitative leap in crowd management and reduce the time required for guidance inside the Grand Mosque, especially during peak times that witness high human density during the current Ramadan season.

This step confirms the Authority’s commitment to applying the best engineering and technical practices in spatial guidance, in its endeavor to create advanced solutions that contribute to enriching the experience of visitors and achieving the aspirations of the wise leadership in providing the finest services to the guests of God in a safe and organized worship environment.
