The Monodrama Festival kicks off tomorrow in Dammam, organized by the Theater and Performing Arts Association, with the participation of 10 Saudi teams, including performances and workshops to support the theatrical movement.

The city of Dammam is preparing to host a prominent cultural and artistic event tomorrow, Friday, as the Theater and Performing Arts Association the "Monodrama Festival," a significant creative platform celebrating solo performance art. The "Kawaliss" Theater at the Culture and Arts Association in Dammam will host this five-day event, which is generating considerable anticipation within the Kingdom's cultural and theatrical circles.

Broad participation and geographical diversity

The festival is witnessing remarkable competition and attendance, with the participation of 10 national theater groups representing various regions and governorates of the Kingdom, including Dammam, Khobar, Riyadh, Qatif, Jazan, Taif, and Jeddah. This geographical diversity reflects the richness of the Saudi theatrical scene and the desire of creative individuals from all regions to present their artistic experiences in this unique theatrical genre.

The Art of Monodrama: Challenge and Creativity

Monodrama is considered one of the most challenging and complex theatrical arts, as the entire performance relies on a single actor who narrates the events and embodies the dramatic conflict alone. The festival aims to introduce this creative form, which focuses on profound individual performance and the actor's ability to utilize body language, voice, and emotions to fill the theatrical space and captivate the audience without relying on dialogue with other characters, making it a true test of an actor's performance abilities.

Training programs and accompanying events

The festival is not limited to theatrical performances; it also aims to be a comprehensive educational and cultural environment. The festival program includes a training program and a specialized workshop titled "Performance Techniques in Monodrama," designed to hone the talents of young actors. A symposium titled "The Solo Actor Symposium: Creating the Theatrical Partner" will also be held to discuss the dimensions and challenges of this art form. In addition, an art exhibition will be organized, showcasing the history and works of monodrama in the Kingdom, alongside an exhibition of posters of the participating productions.

Supporting the theatrical movement and a vision for the future

This festival comes within the context of the rapidly evolving cultural movement in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which aims to empower national talents and strengthen the arts infrastructure. In this regard, artist Nasser Al-Qasabi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Theater and Performing Arts Association, affirmed that the festival represents a continuation of the Saudi theatrical movement. He pointed out that it comes in support of creative individuals who, through body, movement, and voice, create a theatrical experience that expresses humanity and its issues, emphasizing the importance of art in illuminating dark spaces and giving the future an inextinguishable flame of hope.
