La Liga, the Spanish football league, officially announced on Friday the launch of an unprecedented initiative, the first of its kind in the world of football. From April 10th to 13th, the competition will celebrate its first- Classico round . This move reinforces La Liga's position as one of the most innovative leagues, drawing on its rich heritage to deliver an unparalleled visual and emotional experience for fans worldwide.
Classic Tour Details and Return to Roots
In an official statement seen by international news agencies, the league confirmed that 38 clubs from the first and second divisions will play their matches during this round wearing historical kits specially redesigned for the occasion, inspired by iconic moments and milestones in each club's history. The initiative isn't limited to players; this classic style will extend to referees, who will wear a special design approved by the Spanish Football Federation's Referees' Technical Committee, thus giving the event a comprehensive feel.
European leadership and its intersection with the world of fashion
This initiative is particularly significant as it makes La Liga the only one of Europe's top five leagues to dedicate an entire matchday to celebrating history in such a direct way. This move comes at a time of growing global interest in retro fashion and classic jerseys, reflecting the league's astute marketing strategy to connect new generations with their clubs' rich history. In an innovative promotional move, the kits that the teams will wear in Matchday 31 will be unveiled on Thursday, March 19, during Madrid Fashion Week, placing football at the heart of cultural and creative dialogue.
A TV broadcasting experience with a nostalgic feel
The league explained that the Classic Tour will be more than just a change of clothes; it will embody a "living legacy," transforming each club's history into a tangible experience. To complete the picture, television broadcasts and digital platforms will undergo a radical visual identity overhaul, employing retro-inspired graphics and visuals to transport viewers to the golden age of football.
Commenting on the event, Jaime Blanco, Director of the Clubs Office at La Liga, said: "The Classic Match Tour is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to the history of our clubs and the icons who have shaped generations of fans. It allows us to bring the past into the present while continuing to build memorable experiences and strengthen the legacy that emotionally connects us to our supporters." He added that showcasing this collection during Fashion Week is the perfect platform to highlight this identity off the pitch, emphasizing that these shirts represent a bridge between generations and a link between the roots of sportsmanship and the way football is enjoyed today.
