New Saudi humanitarian aid arrives in Yemen

As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, has provided a new and diverse aid package to the brotherly Yemeni people. The aid covered vital sectors such as shelter, health, and food, and reached the governorates of Marib and Hadramawt with the aim of alleviating the severity of the humanitarian crisis plaguing the country.

The general context of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen

Yemen has been experiencing one of the world's worst humanitarian crises for years, a consequence of the ongoing conflict that began in late 2014. The crisis has led to the internal displacement of millions of people, the collapse of essential infrastructure, including the health sector, and a worsening of food insecurity. Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has played a pivotal role in coordinating and delivering Saudi aid to Yemen, targeting the most affected sectors to ensure that support reaches those who need it most.

Urgent shelter support for displaced people in Marib

A relief convoy arrived in Marib Governorate, one of the governorates hosting the largest number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Yemen. The convoy carried 1,440 shelter kits and 1,680 tents as part of the fifth phase of the Emergency Shelter Plan project. This aid aims to provide safe shelter for families who have lost their homes, protecting them from harsh weather conditions and contributing to their temporary stability. This support comes in response to the growing needs in the governorate, which is experiencing continuous waves of displacement.

Developing health infrastructure in Hadramawt

In the health sector, the center inaugurated a state-of-the-art shockwave lithotripsy unit at the Specialized Center for Kidney and Urological Surgery in Wadi Hadramawt. This project is part of a program to provide medical equipment to specialized centers, in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health and Population office. Dr. Hani Al-Amoudi, director of the ministry's office in Wadi Hadramawt, praised the significant Saudi support, which contributes to strengthening the health infrastructure. He emphasized that this unit will reduce the need for patients to travel outside the governorate for treatment, thus alleviating their financial and physical burdens and improving the quality of medical care provided locally.

Ongoing efforts to combat food insecurity

The aid was not limited to shelter and health, but also extended to food security. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 4,700 food baskets in the Al-Sum and Sayun districts of Hadramawt Governorate, benefiting 32,900 individuals. This aid is part of the Emergency Food Assistance Project, which aims to bridge the food gap among the poorest families affected by the crisis.

The importance of aid and its sustainable impact

This comprehensive aid reflects the Kingdom's strategy in addressing the Yemeni crisis, which extends beyond immediate relief to include supporting the sustainability of vital sectors such as healthcare. Providing shelter and food addresses immediate needs, while supporting medical centers represents a long-term investment in the health of Yemeni society. These efforts underscore the Kingdom's humanitarian and relief role in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people amidst the difficult living conditions they are enduring.
