In embodying the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s pioneering role in global humanitarian work, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continues to extend bridges of giving across continents, having recently implemented a series of diverse relief initiatives in three countries: Brazil, Lebanon, and Afghanistan, affirming its firm commitment to alleviating the suffering of the needy and affected around the world without discrimination.
General context: Saudi Arabia's humanitarian arm around the world
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center was established in 2015 as the Kingdom's international arm for providing humanitarian and relief assistance. Since its inception, the Center has implemented hundreds of projects in dozens of countries, targeting vital sectors such as food security, health, shelter, and education. These ongoing efforts are in line with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and with the close follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to solidify the Kingdom's position as a key player in the international humanitarian arena.
Brazil: A symbolic gift to strengthen human ties
In the capital, Brasilia, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center launched a project to distribute 200 tons of dates as a gift from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Federative Republic of Brazil. The aid was delivered by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Brazil, Faisal bin Ibrahim Ghulam, in the presence of prominent figures, including the wife of the Brazilian Vice President, Lo Alckmin. This initiative transcends mere food aid, representing a diplomatic and humanitarian gesture that strengthens bilateral relations between the two countries. The Vice President's wife praised the significant role played by the Kingdom through the Center in supporting humanitarian work, while Ambassador Ghulam affirmed that the gift reflects the Saudi leadership's commitment to strengthening humanitarian ties worldwide. The distribution process has already begun in cooperation with the Federation of Islamic Institutions in Brazil (FAMBRAS), targeting the most vulnerable groups.
Lebanon: Vital support for the exhausted health sector
Amid Lebanon’s severe economic crisis, which has severely impacted all sectors, particularly healthcare, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continues to provide essential support. In the Minieh region of northern Lebanon, the Center funded 28 emergency medical missions in just one week through the ambulance service of the Sabil Al-Salam Social Association. These missions involved transporting patients to and from hospitals, benefiting both Syrian refugees and members of the host community. This project is part of a broader program to support ambulance transport services in refugee areas, a crucial initiative given the increasing pressure on Lebanese hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Afghanistan: Emergency response for earthquake victims
In response to the natural disaster that struck northern Afghanistan, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) swiftly provided urgent assistance to those affected by the earthquake. The Center distributed 400 food baskets and 400 cartons of dates in the Khalam district of Samangan province, benefiting 400 affected families, equivalent to 2,400 individuals. This aid is part of an emergency response project aimed at providing basic necessities to families who lost their homes and livelihoods, and alleviating their suffering in these difficult circumstances. This rapid response reflects the Center's readiness and capacity to intervene immediately in disaster areas and provide support to the brotherly Afghan people.
