The mobile clinics of the King Salman Relief Center in Abs district, Yemen, continue to provide vital medical services, having treated 203 beneficiaries in one week as part of efforts to address the health crisis.

Ongoing humanitarian efforts at the heart of the Yemeni crisis

As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to support Yemen’s collapsing health sector, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued to provide vital medical services through its mobile clinics in Abs District, Hajjah Governorate. From January 21 to 27, these clinics successfully reached 203 of the most vulnerable beneficiaries, providing them with essential healthcare under extremely difficult humanitarian conditions.

Details of medical services provided

The clinics provided a range of medical services across various essential specialties. The infectious disease control clinic treated 91 patients, reflecting the pivotal role these clinics play in curbing the spread of epidemics such as cholera and other infectious diseases. The emergency clinic treated 31 individuals, while the internal medicine clinic saw 65 patients. In addition to treatment, the center prioritized preventative care, with 16 people benefiting from the health awareness and education program. Regarding support services, the nursing clinic provided care to 37 patients, dispensed necessary medications to 97 individuals, and the surgery and dressing department admitted two patients and conducted two safe medical waste disposal activities.

General context: A health crisis in Yemen

These efforts come in the context of the humanitarian crisis that Yemen has been experiencing for years, which has led to the near-total collapse of its infrastructure, particularly the health sector. Hajjah Governorate, specifically Abs District, is among the hardest-hit areas, hosting large numbers of internally displaced persons and lacking even the most basic healthcare. The conflict has led to the closure or destruction of more than half of the country's health facilities, leaving millions of Yemenis, especially women and children, without access to essential medical services. In this context, the mobile medical clinics operated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre represent a lifeline for local communities and displaced persons in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

The importance of the initiative and its humanitarian impact

The importance of these projects lies in their ability to provide a rapid and flexible response to urgent health needs. By directly reaching people in their villages and camps, these clinics help alleviate the burden on overcrowded central hospitals, provide early disease detection services, and offer free treatment, thus reducing mortality rates from preventable diseases. At both the regional and international levels, these initiatives reflect the humanitarian role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, and underscore the international commitment to protecting civilians and providing life-saving assistance in conflict zones, in accordance with international humanitarian law and humanitarian principles.
