A modern kidney dialysis unit was inaugurated in Hajjah with the support of the King Salman Relief Center, to provide sustainable treatment for kidney failure patients and alleviate their suffering in light of the humanitarian crisis.

In a move representing a significant leap forward in the level of healthcare services provided in Yemen, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center inaugurated a new kidney dialysis unit at the Al-Ja'ada Health Center in Hajjah Governorate. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Governor of Hajjah, Major General Abdulkarim Al-Sunaini, along with a number of local officials and medical staff, reflecting the immense importance of this vital project to the local community.

General context and health crisis in Yemen

This project comes amidst the dire humanitarian conditions Yemen has been experiencing for years, where the conflict has led to a near-total collapse of the health sector. Hajjah Governorate is among the hardest-hit areas, with residents facing immense difficulties accessing basic healthcare. Kidney failure patients are among the most vulnerable, as their treatment requires regular and continuous dialysis sessions, which were virtually impossible to provide due to shortages of medical equipment and supplies, power outages, and a lack of clean water. Patients were forced to travel long and perilous distances to reach the few available centers, incurring exorbitant costs that exacerbated their suffering.

Project importance and expected impact

The importance of this new unit lies in its provision of a sustainable and high-quality solution to this problem. The unit is equipped with the latest dialysis technologies and equipment, in addition to a fully integrated water treatment plant operating according to the highest international health standards, ensuring the provision of safe and effective medical services. After inspecting the modern facilities, Governor Al-Sunaini praised the relief and humanitarian efforts provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, emphasizing that this unit will directly contribute to alleviating the suffering of hundreds of patients in the governorate.

Locally, the project will provide free and sustainable treatment for kidney failure patients, saving their lives and alleviating the financial and psychological burden on them and their families. Regionally and internationally, this project embodies the Kingdom's commitment to its leading humanitarian role in supporting the Yemeni people, strengthening the fragile health sector, and highlighting the importance of impactful projects that go beyond emergency aid to build sustainable local capacities that serve the community in the long term. This launch is part of a comprehensive series of projects and programs implemented by the Center to support the health sector in various Yemeni governorates, reaffirming the Kingdom's commitment to standing with the brotherly Yemeni people during their crisis.
