The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its ongoing humanitarian efforts in Yemen, distributing 541 vouchers for winter clothing in Al-Mawasit District, Taiz Governorate. This initiative empowers beneficiaries to choose their winter clothes from approved stores, ensuring their personal needs are met with dignity and freedom of choice. The distribution benefited 541 individuals from the most vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons and members of the host community, as part of the "Kanaf" winter clothing distribution project in Yemen.
This project is of paramount importance given the dire humanitarian situation in Taiz Governorate and Yemen as a whole. For years, Taiz has suffered under a crippling siege and deteriorating economic conditions, leading to a sharp rise in the prices of basic commodities and clothing, making it difficult for families to afford winter necessities. The governorate is one of the most densely populated areas and a major host to internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have fled conflict zones. Many of these IDPs live in camps or shelters lacking even the most basic heating, leaving them vulnerable to the harsh cold and related illnesses.
The “Kanaf” project is part of a comprehensive strategy implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people. This assistance is not limited to food alone, but extends to shelter, health, education, and protection. The voucher mechanism is an advanced model in relief work, moving away from traditional, standardized in-kind distribution and giving beneficiaries a sense of independence. It also contributes to stimulating the local economy by enabling purchases from local merchants within the district.
Historically, Saudi Arabia has played a leading role in supporting Yemen during its current crisis, topping the list of donor countries to the United Nations' humanitarian response plans in Yemen for several years. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre serves as the Kingdom's humanitarian arm, delivering aid to various Yemeni governorates without discrimination, aiming to bridge the significant gap in basic needs created by the war and the devaluation of the local currency.
This intervention is expected to have a tangible positive impact on the health and well-being of beneficiaries, particularly children and the elderly, by providing them with much-needed warmth during the winter. This step underscores the Kingdom's ongoing commitment to standing with the Yemeni people in their time of hardship and strengthening their resilience in the face of increasing living and climatic challenges.
