As part of the ongoing humanitarian efforts by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the brotherly Yemeni people, the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid to implement the winter clothing distribution project known as “Kanaf”, targeting the harsh desert areas in the valley and desert of Hadramawt Governorate.
The campaign witnessed the distribution of 4,170 winter clothing sets , which were directed directly to the most needy families and displaced people in the targeted districts, with the aim of providing them with warmth and protecting them from the severe cold waves that hit those open areas during the winter season.
A difficult human and geographical context
This initiative comes at a critical time, as the desert regions of Hadramawt are experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures at night, exacerbating the suffering of those living in camps and makeshift shelters. Yemeni families in these areas face compounded challenges, combining the harsh climate with the country's long-standing economic hardship, making the provision of winter necessities and warm clothing a financial burden beyond the means of many.
The “Kanaf” project is a practical response to these challenges, as it focuses on bridging the gap in basic non-food needs, thus complementing the comprehensive aid package provided by the Kingdom.
The Kingdom's leading role in relief work
This project reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, to stand with the Yemeni people in their time of need. These efforts extend beyond emergency aid, forming part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening the social and health security of the most vulnerable groups, particularly children, women, and the elderly, who are most susceptible to cold-related illnesses.
Expected impact of the project
The distribution of this clothing is expected to have tangible positive effects at the local level, most notably:
- Reducing health risks: Lowering the incidence of winter illnesses and severe colds, especially among children.
- Economic relief: Relieving the financial burden on beneficiary families, enabling them to direct their limited resources towards providing food and medicine.
- Psychological support: To enhance families' sense of security and stability during the winter season.
The King Salman Relief Center continues to implement its humanitarian plans in various Yemeni governorates, thus confirming the deep fraternal ties between the Saudi and Yemeni peoples, and the Kingdom’s keenness to alleviate human suffering in accordance with the highest international standards in providing relief.
