The King Salman Relief Center distributes 194 winter clothing vouchers in Idlib, Syria, as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to help displaced people cope with the harsh winter cold.

In a humanitarian effort aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced Syrians with the onset of winter, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 194 vouchers for winter clothing in the Khirbet al-Jouz area of Idlib Governorate, northern Syria. These vouchers benefited 194 individuals from the most vulnerable families, as part of the "Kanaf" project for distributing winter clothing in the Syrian Arab Republic this year.

A critical humanitarian situation in northern Syria

This aid comes at a critical time, as Idlib province and the surrounding areas have been facing a complex and ongoing humanitarian crisis for years. Millions of internally displaced people live in this region, the majority residing in makeshift camps that lack even the most basic necessities for a dignified life. With temperatures dropping below freezing and rain and snow falling, life in these camps becomes nearly impossible, and health risks increase, especially among children and the elderly, who are the most vulnerable to harsh winter illnesses such as pneumonia and hypothermia.

Project importance and direct impact

The importance of the “Kanaf” project extends beyond simply providing warmth to its beneficiaries. The voucher distribution mechanism empowers families to freely choose winter clothing that suits their needs and preferences, thus preserving their dignity. This approach also contributes to supporting the local economy and stimulating markets in the targeted areas, as purchases are made from local shops. At the local level, this initiative is a lifeline for families struggling to survive, helping them navigate one of the most challenging seasons with minimal losses.

The Kingdom's leading role in humanitarian work

This project reflects the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, in responding to humanitarian crises around the world. Since its establishment in 2015, the Centre has implemented hundreds of projects in dozens of countries affected by disasters and conflicts, providing assistance across all vital sectors such as food, health, shelter, and education. The ongoing efforts in Syria demonstrate the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to standing with the brotherly Syrian people and providing the necessary support to alleviate the protracted humanitarian crisis, reaffirming its global humanitarian mission of extending a helping hand to those in need everywhere, without discrimination.
