The King Salman Relief Center distributed 542 winter clothing vouchers to displaced families in Daraa, Syria, as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to address the humanitarian crisis.

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its tireless efforts to support Syrian refugees, distributing 542 vouchers for winter clothing in the Al-Musayfirah and Busra al-Sham centers in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria. These vouchers benefited 542 individuals from displaced families residing in camps, as part of the "Kanaf" winter clothing distribution project in Syria.

Human background to a protracted crisis

This aid comes amid the complex humanitarian crisis that has gripped Syria for over a decade. The conflict has displaced millions from their homes, forcing them to abandon their possessions and livelihoods and live in dire conditions in camps or makeshift settlements. Daraa Governorate, the birthplace of the 2011 protests, is among the areas hardest hit by the conflict. Displaced families there face immense challenges in securing even the most basic necessities, especially with the onset of harsh winter weather, which exacerbates their suffering due to plummeting temperatures and a lack of heating and warm clothing.

The importance of aid and its direct impact

This initiative is of paramount importance at the local level, as it directly contributes to protecting the most vulnerable groups, especially children and the elderly, from illnesses associated with the harsh winter, such as influenza and pneumonia. Furthermore, the voucher distribution mechanism allows beneficiaries the freedom to choose clothing that suits them, thus preserving their dignity, while simultaneously stimulating commercial activity in struggling local markets. This support represents a lifeline for families who have exhausted their savings and are struggling to meet their basic needs in dire economic circumstances.

The Kingdom's leading role in humanitarian work

At both the regional and international levels, these efforts reflect the leading role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in global humanitarian work. Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has served as the Kingdom's humanitarian arm, implementing hundreds of projects in dozens of countries around the world without discrimination based on religion or ethnicity. The continued Saudi support for the Syrian people underscores the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to the principles of human fraternity and solidarity, and its effective contribution to alleviating one of the greatest humanitarian crises of modern times, in coordination with international partners and UN organizations to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.
