The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid , continued its tireless efforts to support the brotherly Yemeni people, as the center today carried out a large-scale relief campaign in Hadramawt Governorate, which included the distribution of food aid and winter clothing to the most needy families in the valley and desert regions.
Details of the emergency food intervention
As part of its emergency food intervention project covering various Yemeni governorates, the center distributed 13,600 food baskets . This aid targeted affected families in several districts of Wadi and Hadramawt Desert, directly benefiting approximately 95,200 individuals . The project aims to secure basic food needs for food-insecure families, contributing to the stabilization of their living conditions.
“Kanaf” Winter Clothing Project
In conjunction with the food distribution, the center launched a winter clothing distribution project under the slogan “Kanf” (Shelter) in the desert areas of Wadi Hadramawt. The project aims to distribute 2,085 winter clothing kits to the poorest and most vulnerable families. This proactive initiative seeks to protect residents, especially children and the elderly, from the harsh cold waves that affect the open desert areas during winter, thus alleviating the health and financial burdens on these families.
The humanitarian context and the importance of timing
This aid is of paramount importance given the exceptional circumstances in Yemen, where UN reports indicate a continued and dire need for humanitarian assistance amidst the difficult economic conditions. Hadhramaut Governorate, with its far-flung districts, is one of the areas hosting large numbers of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in addition to the host community, placing a significant strain on local resources. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center's intervention aims to bridge a substantial gap in basic needs, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
The Kingdom's leading role in humanitarian work
These initiatives are an extension of the long history of support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Yemen, which extends beyond immediate relief to include development, health, and education projects. This move reflects the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to standing with the Yemeni people in their plight and alleviating their humanitarian suffering caused by the current crisis. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre is now one of the most important international actors in the Yemeni arena, distinguished by its rapid response and access to the most affected groups according to precise and transparent humanitarian standards.
