The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its international relief efforts, distributing 410 food baskets in the Islam Karimov neighborhood of Navoi city in Uzbekistan. This distribution benefited 2,500 individuals, representing 410 of the most vulnerable families in the area, as part of the Center's "Food Basket" project in Uzbekistan for the year 2026.
The general context of Saudi aid
This aid comes within the framework of the leading humanitarian role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the international stage. Since its establishment in 2015 by order of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the center has served as the Kingdom's humanitarian arm, aiming to provide relief and humanitarian assistance to those in need and affected by crises and disasters worldwide, without discrimination based on religion, race, or color. The relationship between the Kingdom and Uzbekistan is a strong historical one, witnessing remarkable development in various fields, including cooperation in humanitarian and development sectors, making these initiatives a testament to the deep ties between the two countries.
Project objectives and expected impact
The “Food Basket” project in Uzbekistan aims to distribute a total of 6,060 complete food baskets, each containing enough basic food items to feed a family for a month. The project is expected to reach 36,000 beneficiaries across 14 different provinces throughout Uzbekistan. Locally, this assistance directly contributes to easing the economic burden on beneficiary families, enhancing their food security, and improving their living conditions, which in turn positively impacts the stability of the local community.
Regional and international importance
Regionally, these efforts reinforce the Kingdom's position as an active humanitarian partner in Central Asia and underscore its commitment to supporting stability and development in friendly nations. Internationally, these initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2 on eradicating hunger. They also highlight the humanitarian image of Saudi Arabia and reaffirm its pivotal role as one of the world's largest donors of humanitarian aid, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, which operates according to the highest international standards to ensure that aid reaches those in need effectively and transparently.
