As part of the food security support project, the King Salman Relief Center distributed 1,400 food baskets in Berber locality in Sudan, benefiting 11,700 individuals, within the framework of the Saudi relief bridge.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, continued its tireless efforts to support the brotherly Sudanese people. The Center distributed 1,400 food baskets targeting the most vulnerable families and displaced persons in Berber locality, River Nile State. Approximately 11,700 individuals benefited from this urgent aid, which falls under the "Madad Sudan" project, aimed at providing essential food supplies to those affected.

The context of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan

This aid comes at a critical time, as Sudan faces a complex humanitarian situation resulting from the ongoing crisis, which has severely impacted food security and the basic necessities of life for its citizens. River Nile State is a vital region that has received large numbers of displaced people fleeing active conflict zones, placing immense pressure on local resources and infrastructure. This has made external relief intervention an urgent necessity to alleviate the suffering of thousands of families who have lost their homes and livelihoods and face daily challenges in securing their basic needs.

Extended air and sea bridge

In a related context, this convoy was but one link in a long chain of relief efforts launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since the outbreak of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The Saudi leadership established an air and sea bridge to transport urgent aid, with 13 relief planes and 60 ships carrying tons of food, shelter materials, medical supplies, and environmental aid arriving to date. These figures reflect the unwavering Saudi commitment to standing by Sudan in its time of need and underscore the deep fraternal and historical ties that bind the two brotherly nations.

International partnerships and massive financial support

At the strategic and international levels, the total value of aid and efforts provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sudan through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has exceeded US$125,566,000. The Center has not only intervened directly through its field teams, but has also signed numerous strategic agreements and partnerships with UN and international humanitarian organizations to ensure that aid reaches those in need across various Sudanese states. This enhances the efficiency of humanitarian work and expands the circle of beneficiaries to include vital sectors such as health, environmental sanitation, community support, and volunteer programs.

The importance of food security

These initiatives are of paramount importance in light of international reports warning of a worsening hunger crisis in some regions. The food security support project implemented by the center is not limited to distributing food baskets; it aims to bridge the urgent food gap and reduce malnutrition rates, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly. This intervention is a cornerstone of the Kingdom's comprehensive humanitarian response strategy, which prioritizes human beings and their dignity, striving to provide a decent life for those affected and alleviate the burden of disasters and crises on our brotherly nations.
