The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its tireless efforts to support food security in Yemen, distributing 1,300 cartons of dates in the governorates of Hadramawt and Shabwa. The aid targeted the most vulnerable families and internally displaced persons, benefiting a total of 8,200 individuals. This initiative is part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people.
Specifically, the distribution included 900 cartons of dates in the districts of Haridah and Amd in Hadramawt Governorate, benefiting 5,400 of the most vulnerable individuals. An additional 400 cartons were distributed in the Al-Rawdah district of Shabwah Governorate, intended to assist 2,800 individuals, providing them with a vital and nutritious food source.
The general context of humanitarian aid in Yemen
This aid comes amidst the humanitarian crisis that Yemen has been experiencing for years, which is considered one of the world's largest humanitarian crises according to United Nations reports. The conflict has led to the deterioration of infrastructure and exacerbated food insecurity, leaving millions of Yemenis dependent on humanitarian assistance for survival. Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has played a pivotal role in responding to this crisis, implementing hundreds of projects in vital sectors such as food, health, water, shelter, and education, thus reinforcing its role as a leading humanitarian arm of the Kingdom.
Project importance and expected impact
This distribution is part of a broader project to distribute dates in Yemen, aiming to distribute 5,000 tons of dates (equivalent to 625,000 cartons) across 13 Yemeni governorates, benefiting more than 375,000 individuals. Locally, this support directly contributes to enhancing food security for beneficiary families, as dates are a rich source of energy and nutrients, helping to combat malnutrition. Regionally and internationally, these initiatives reflect the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to its humanitarian role towards Yemen and the region, highlighting its efforts to support stability and meet the basic needs of affected populations, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and international humanitarian principles.
