As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing humanitarian efforts to support affected populations worldwide, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its relief programs inside Syria. The Center distributed 560 winter blankets to displaced families in Aleppo Governorate, targeting 280 families living in exceptionally difficult circumstances, as part of its project to distribute shelter and food aid to the Syrian people.
This step comes in response to the urgent need created by the harsh climatic conditions in northern Syria, where displaced people suffer from extremely low temperatures during the winter. This aid is part of a broader package of projects funded and implemented by the center to provide warmth and protection to the most vulnerable groups, particularly children, women, and the elderly who lack basic heating in displacement camps and temporary shelters.
The context of the humanitarian crisis in Aleppo
This aid is doubly important given the overall situation in Aleppo and its surrounding areas. Years of conflict, coupled with recent natural disasters, have devastated infrastructure and displaced hundreds of thousands of families. Those displaced in these areas face numerous challenges, including fuel shortages, high prices for heating materials, and inadequate insulation in tents and makeshift shelters, making blankets and winter clothing their first line of defense against cold-related illnesses.
The Kingdom's leading role in relief work
This swift action by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leading role in international humanitarian work. Since its establishment, the Center has served as the Kingdom's humanitarian arm, providing aid without discrimination and with the aim of alleviating human suffering wherever it exists. The aid to Aleppo is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening human security in affected areas, encompassing not only in-kind assistance but also support for health, food security, shelter, and water and sanitation.
Expected impact of aid
The distribution of these blankets is expected to alleviate the harsh winter conditions for the 280 beneficiary families, enhancing their resilience and ability to adapt to the difficult environment of displacement. The continued flow of Saudi aid also sends a strong message of solidarity from the Saudi people to their brothers and sisters in Syria, underscoring the deep fraternal and humanitarian ties that bind the two nations. The center continues to monitor the needs of displaced persons regularly to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most, adhering to the highest international standards of transparency and reliability.
