As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the brotherly Yemeni people, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 1,000 complete food baskets in the Shuhuh area of Seiyun District, Hadramawt Governorate. This aid targeted the most vulnerable families and displaced persons, benefiting 7,000 individuals from 1,000 families, as part of the Emergency Food Intervention Project in Yemen.
Background to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen
This support comes in the context of the complex humanitarian crisis that Yemen has been experiencing for years, which the United Nations has described as one of the world's worst. The ongoing conflict has displaced millions of people from their homes, creating immense pressure on resources in more stable areas such as Hadramawt Governorate, which hosts large numbers of internally displaced persons. This situation has exacerbated food insecurity, with a significant portion of the population struggling to access sufficient food, making external humanitarian assistance a vital lifeline for millions.
The role of the King Salman Relief Center
Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has played a pivotal role as the humanitarian arm of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, delivering hundreds of relief and humanitarian projects in Yemen across various vital sectors. The Centre's efforts extend beyond food provision to encompass health, water and sanitation, education, shelter, and psychosocial support. These projects are implemented in collaboration with local and international partners to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most effectively and transparently, addressing the urgent needs of the affected population.
The importance of aid and its expected impact
This food aid is of paramount importance on several levels. Locally, the food baskets directly contribute to the food security of beneficiary families, alleviate their economic burden, and enable them to direct their scarce resources towards other essential needs such as healthcare and education. Regionally and internationally, these ongoing initiatives reflect the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to its humanitarian role towards Yemen, contribute to strengthening stability in areas hosting displaced persons, and support international efforts to mitigate the severity of the humanitarian crisis. This project underscores the Kingdom's unwavering humanitarian approach in standing with the Yemeni people to overcome their current hardship.
