The emergency cholera response project in Yemen, supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, continued to provide vital medical and preventative services, benefiting 2,069 individuals between December 3 and 9. These efforts are part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to supporting the Yemeni health sector and containing epidemics that threaten the lives of its citizens.
Close monitoring and precautionary measures
During the week in question, the project's efforts focused on conducting thorough epidemiological investigations to detect cholera at key locations, including Aden and Al-Rayyan airports, as well as land border crossings such as Al-Hafiya and Razih. These measures covered a wide area encompassing coastal Hadramawt, Hadramawt Valley, Aden, Hajjah, and Sa'dah. Notably, the comprehensive surveys did not record any suspected or confirmed cases of cholera, reflecting the effectiveness of the preventive measures implemented.
Awareness is the first line of defense
Believing that prevention is better than cure, the project did not limit itself to medical treatment alone, but also placed great emphasis on health awareness and education. A total of 322 intensive awareness sessions were conducted, benefiting 8,057 individuals. These sessions aimed to raise community awareness about the causes of the disease, its transmission methods, and the importance of personal hygiene and water purification—essential practices for reducing the spread of infection in local communities.

These efforts are doubly important given the complex health situation in Yemen, where years of conflict have severely damaged water and sanitation infrastructure, creating a breeding ground for waterborne diseases like cholera. Logistical support and expansion of treatment capabilities
As part of its comprehensive strategy, the project works to reduce infection rates and limit the spread of the epidemic by directly supporting health facilities. This includes providing essential medical supplies for cholera treatment, such as intravenous and oral rehydration solutions, antibiotics, protective equipment, and sterilization materials. Furthermore, the project is committed to expanding the bed capacity of cholera treatment centers to ensure they are fully prepared to handle any potential increase in cases, thus guaranteeing a rapid and effective response to any health emergency.
