The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved a remarkable milestone by ranking first in the number of applications submitted to participate in the AI Healthcare Hackathon , which aims to develop high-value medical systems. This leading technology event will be hosted by Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Al Sahafa from April 10-11, 2026, in strategic partnership with Prince Mohammed Bin Salman College of Management and Entrepreneurship (MBSC) and the prestigious Harvard University. This achievement coincides with the Cabinet's approval of designating 2026 as the "Year of Artificial Intelligence," reflecting the Kingdom's strong commitment to adopting advanced technologies.
Innovation journey towards an AI healthcare hackathon
This leading position is a culmination of the Kingdom's ongoing efforts within Vision 2030 for digital transformation and innovation. Historically, Saudi Arabia has placed great emphasis on integrating modern technologies into various vital sectors, most notably the healthcare sector. The establishment of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and the launch of the National Strategy for Data and Artificial Intelligence have contributed to creating a fertile environment for innovation. This overall context made hosting the AI Healthcare Hackathon a natural step, reflecting the maturity of the Kingdom's technological infrastructure and the readiness of its national talent to compete globally in developing advanced medical solutions.
Record numbers and unprecedented global demand
Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muhammadi, Chairman of the Forum's Organizing Committee, affirmed the group's pride in this ranking and the remarkable turnout. He noted that the Kingdom outperformed 36 participating countries, with the organizers receiving over 10,000 applications from around the world, of which Saudi Arabia accounted for more than 2,000. The organizing committee is currently reviewing these applications to select 600 participants from the Kingdom to compete in the hackathon. Dr. Al-Muhammadi explained that this success would not have been possible without the significant support of the Saudi Research, Development and Innovation Authority (SDAIA), along with the contributions of partners such as the Ministry of Health, SDAIA, Monshaat, Hevolution Foundation, Foura Company, The Garage, and stc inspireU. This high level of participation reflects the passion of young minds and professionals to transform real-world challenges into tangible solutions.
The strategic impact of developing the medical system locally and internationally
This event is not merely a technology competition; its anticipated impact extends to local, regional, and international dimensions. Locally, the hackathon empowers young Saudi talent and supports the growth of medical technology startups, thereby enhancing the efficiency and quality of healthcare services provided to citizens. Regionally, the event solidifies the Kingdom's position as a leading hub for medical innovation in the Middle East and encourages neighboring countries to adopt similar models. Internationally, the development of AI-based solutions will make valuable contributions to the global medical community, particularly in the areas of early diagnosis and big data analytics.
Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group was chosen to host this event due to its position as one of the largest providers of innovative healthcare services in the private sector and its pioneering role in digital transformation. Ultimately, the hackathon aims to connect entrepreneurs and innovators with academics and specialists to build a more sustainable and efficient future for healthcare, leveraging the latest advancements in artificial intelligence technologies.
