King Abdulaziz International Airport achieves a historic milestone by serving 53.4 million passengers, joining the list of giant airports globally, in support of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals.

In a first for Saudi civil aviation, King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah achieved an unprecedented milestone, announcing that it served more than 53.4 million passengers in a single year. This record not only placed the airport at the forefront of Saudi airports but also officially earned it a place among the world's "Mega Airports," a list that includes the largest international airports in terms of traffic volume and operational capacity.

Record operating figures and accelerated growth

The achievement was not limited to passenger numbers alone; operational indicators also included significant leaps in various services. The airport handled approximately 310,000 flights, reflecting continuous, round-the-clock activity. In the logistics and baggage handling sector, operational teams processed 60.4 million bags, achieving a growth rate of 12% compared to the previous year, 2024. The airport also continued its vital role in serving pilgrims, handling approximately 9.57 million bottles of blessed Zamzam water, in addition to operating 2,968 cargo flights, further solidifying its position as a regional logistics hub.

The gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and the focus of Vision 2030

This achievement holds strategic importance that transcends mere numbers; King Abdulaziz International Airport serves as the primary gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and the first point of contact for millions of pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah annually. This significant expansion in capacity is the result of ongoing development projects, most notably the commissioning of Terminal 1, equipped with the latest global technologies to enhance the travel experience. This transformation directly contributes to achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 , specifically the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to establish the Kingdom as a global logistics hub connecting three continents and to reach 330 million passengers annually by 2030.

Future readiness and concerted efforts

Commenting on this milestone, Jeddah Airports Company CEO, Eng. Mazen Johar, affirmed that reaching 53.4 million passengers is practical proof of the high operational readiness and efficiency of the airport and its staff. He indicated that this figure represents a pivotal step towards doubling numbers in the coming years. Johar attributed this success first and foremost to God's grace, followed by the unwavering support of the wise leadership and the diligent follow-up of the Ministry of Transport and the General Authority of Civil Aviation. He also commended the efforts of the partners in success from both the public and private sectors, who worked as a unified team to deliver a distinguished travel experience befitting the Kingdom's stature.
