On Sunday evening, the Afghan capital, Kabul, witnessed a series of explosions and gunfire, coinciding with the activation of air defense systems in the city's skies, according to what was observed by news agency correspondents in the field.
AFP correspondents in Kabul reported hearing loud explosions followed by heavy gunfire, and saw air defense systems firing into the airspace of the capital to engage aerial targets.
In a brief official statement regarding the incident, the Afghan Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility for the air defense fire. A ministry spokesperson explained in a post on the X platform that the defense systems engaged what he described as "Pakistani aircraft" flying over Kabul.
