The Jeddah Governorate Secretariat revealed its annual report for 2025, which highlighted its intensive efforts in protecting and monitoring the marine coasts, stressing its firm commitment to enhancing public safety standards for beachgoers, and regulating marine activities in accordance with the highest environmental and regulatory standards.
Statistics and figures reflecting the scale of fieldwork
Official data released by the Secretariat demonstrated the tireless work of the field teams, who successfully handled 352 rescue operations , reflecting their high level of preparedness and rapid response to emergencies along the supervised beaches. In its oversight role, the Secretariat conducted 2,073 inspection tours and recorded 11,372 hours of field patrols to ensure compliance with regulations.
The Secretariat also issued 1,964 sailing permits and recorded 167 various maritime violations, as part of its efforts to reduce random practices that may threaten the marine environment or the safety of beachgoers.
The strategic importance of Jeddah's coastline and its regional influence
These efforts are particularly important given Jeddah's status as the gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and the "Bride of the Red Sea," a major tourist destination both locally and regionally. The Jeddah Municipality's responsibilities extend across a vast geographical area, encompassing 530 kilometers of coastline, from Rabigh in the north to Al-Qunfudhah in the south.
This large geographical expanse places on the Secretariat the responsibility of protecting a unique and diverse ecosystem, and ensuring the sustainability of marine resources, which are a fundamental pillar of the tourism economy in the western region of the Kingdom.
A sophisticated technological system and qualified human resources
To manage these demanding tasks, the municipality allocated trained personnel, assigning 104 lifeguards and supervisors to directly oversee 14 beaches. Monitoring was not limited to public beaches; it also included 280 field visits to 66 seaside resorts to ensure the safety of facilities and services.
In this context, the Deputy Mayor of Jeddah for Monitoring and Protecting the Maritime Coasts, Captain Thamer Nahhas, explained that the municipality relies on a sophisticated maritime fleet equipped with tracking systems and modern operating technologies, supported by operations rooms that work around the clock to ensure immediate response to reports.
Integration with the Kingdom's Vision 2030
These efforts are perfectly aligned with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 , specifically the Quality of Life , which aims to improve the lifestyle of individuals and families and build a society where its members enjoy a balanced way of life. Providing a safe and clean coastal environment not only attracts tourists but also enhances the well-being of local residents and provides them with safe natural spaces that meet the highest international standards.
