Border Guard patrols in Jeddah apprehended a citizen who violated the security and safety regulations by practicing fishing without a permit and using prohibited tools, while emphasizing the protection of the marine environment.

As part of the ongoing efforts by security and regulatory authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to control maritime activities and protect natural resources, the coastal patrols of the Border Guard in Jeddah Governorate in the Makkah region were able to apprehend a citizen who violated the regulations in force in the Kingdom’s maritime areas.

The relevant authorities explained that the violation consisted of fishing without the necessary official permits and using illegal fishing gear, a clear violation of the regulations governing safety and security for those engaged in maritime activities. The authorities immediately initiated legal proceedings against the violator, and he was referred to the competent authorities for further investigation and the application of the prescribed penalties.

The importance of adhering to fishing permits and maritime regulations

This operation comes as part of the General Directorate of Border Guards' commitment to enforcing regulations primarily aimed at ensuring the safety of all those using the sea, whether recreational boaters or fishermen. Fishing permits are essential documents that guarantee the activity's practitioners are aware of safety rules and permitted fishing areas, thus reducing maritime accidents and protecting lives and property.

Saudi regulations emphasize the need to adhere to permitted fishing tools, as the use of prohibited tools (such as nets that do not meet specifications or methods that cause damage to coral reefs) leads to the depletion of fish stocks and damage to the delicate ecological balance in the Red Sea.

Protecting the marine environment and the goals of Vision 2030

Addressing such violations is not only important for security, but also has significant environmental and economic dimensions. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its Vision 2030, places great importance on protecting the environment and wildlife, and the "Green Saudi Arabia" initiative and relevant environmental authorities are working to ensure the sustainability of natural resources.

The Red Sea is one of the Kingdom's most important natural treasures, which it strives to preserve due to its unique biodiversity and rare coral reefs. Therefore, combating illegal and unregulated fishing is essential to ensuring the sustainability of these resources for future generations and to promoting ecotourism, a vital economic driver.

Call for reporting and community cooperation

In closing, the General Directorate of Border Guards urged all citizens and residents to fully comply with regulations and instructions related to maritime safety and the protection of living aquatic resources. It emphasized the importance of community involvement in reporting any violations or incidents that constitute an attack on the environment or wildlife.

Everyone can contribute to this national effort by calling the designated emergency numbers: 911 in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, and 994, 999, and 996 in the rest of the Kingdom. Security authorities have confirmed that all reports are handled with complete confidentiality and without any liability on the part of the reporter, reinforcing the principle that "security is everyone's responsibility.".
