Intensive efforts are underway to welcome the holy month in Jazan
The branch of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance in the Jazan region announced the completion of all preparations for the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH, following the preparation and equipping of more than 9,700 mosques, prayer halls, and women's prayer areas across the region's various governorates and centers. These efforts are part of the Ministry's annual plan to ensure a comprehensive and comfortable spiritual environment for worshippers during the holy month.
The preparations included comprehensive maintenance of the facilities, from lighting, air conditioning, and sound systems, to cleaning, restoration, sanitization, and fragrance. All identified issues were addressed to ensure the mosques are fully prepared, providing a serene and reverent atmosphere for worship, especially during the Taraweeh and Qiyam prayers, which see a large influx of worshippers.
General context: Caring for houses of worship as a national priority
As the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places great importance on the upkeep of mosques and the service of worshippers throughout the country. These efforts intensify significantly with the approach of Ramadan, a major religious occasion for Muslims. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, through its branches across all regions, implements comprehensive plans that extend beyond maintenance and cleaning to include outreach and guidance programs, and the activation of the mosque's role as a beacon of knowledge and worship. This reflects the Kingdom's pivotal role in serving Islam and Muslims.
Enhancing community engagement through volunteer work
In a parallel initiative aimed at strengthening social solidarity and instilling values of social responsibility, the Ministry's branch in Jazan launched 840 volunteer opportunities coinciding with the start of Ramadan. This initiative aims to engage community members in serving mosques, with volunteers undertaking a variety of tasks including organizing the entry and exit of worshippers, supervising iftar meals, distributing water bottles, supporting cleaning and maintenance efforts, and replacing worn copies of the Quran with new ones.
A total of 5,800 volunteer positions are available, representing over 17,500 volunteer hours, covering 630 mosques, prayer halls, and women's prayer rooms. These initiatives align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which encourages volunteer work and the development of the non-profit sector as a key pillar of community development.
Importance and expected impact
Locally, these preparations contribute to enhancing the experience of worshippers from the Jazan region and its visitors, ensuring they can perform their religious duties in a healthy, safe, and reassuring environment. Nationally, these efforts, which are being replicated across the Kingdom, reinforce the positive image of the state's commitment to religious affairs and providing everything that serves citizens and residents. They also solidify the Ministry's role as the regulator and supervisor of mosques, and highlight the integration between government agencies, non-profit organizations, and members of the community to achieve shared goals that serve the public good.
