In a significant humanitarian and developmental step, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Jazan Region, inaugurated the “Tarham Endowment Fund” today, in the presence of Mr. Abdullah Al-Shamrani, Chairman of the National Sub-Committee for the Care of Prisoners’ Families and Released Prisoners in the region, and members of the committee. This initiative aims to solidify the concept of social solidarity and provide a sustainable source of financial support for the targeted groups.
General context and historical dimension of the “Tarham” Committee
The National Committee for the Care of Prisoners, Released Prisoners, and Their Families (Tarahum) is one of the most prominent charitable organizations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established by a Cabinet decision to care for this important segment of society. The committee operates throughout the Kingdom through its branches in various regions, providing a comprehensive package of services that extends beyond financial support to include psychological, social, and educational care. It also contributes to the rehabilitation of inmates and released prisoners, enabling their reintegration into society as productive and contributing members.
The importance of the endowment model in sustaining giving
The fund launched in Jazan aims to establish a sustainable investment model, distinguishing it from traditional aid. The endowment concept relies on investing the fund's capital and directing its returns periodically and continuously to support the committee's programs. This model ensures a steady financial flow unaffected by seasonal donation fluctuations, allowing for long-term strategic planning of projects and programs and significantly enhancing Tarahum's ability to expand and improve the quality of its services.
Expected impact at the local and national levels
At the local level in the Jazan region, the fund is expected to have a profound positive social impact. By providing financial support to prisoners' families, the fund helps protect them from poverty and hardship, ensures the continuity of their children's education, and reduces the social risks they may face. For released prisoners, the fund will offer specialized rehabilitation and training programs to help them find suitable employment, thus reducing recidivism rates and enhancing social security in the region. Nationally, the launch of this fund aligns with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which seeks to empower the non-profit sector and increase its contribution to sustainable development. It also reflects the wise leadership's commitment to strengthening institutional charitable work, providing a dignified life for all segments of society, and presenting a pioneering model that can be replicated in other regions of the Kingdom to maximize the social impact of the "Tarham" committees.
During the launch, His Highness the Prince of Jazan affirmed that this initiative comes as an extension of the wise leadership’s interest and care for everything that contributes to promoting sustainable charitable and developmental work, and supporting initiatives that contribute to improving the quality of life, providing opportunities for beneficiaries, and integrating them into society in an effective and productive manner.
