Al-Ittihad Club officially objects to holding the King's Cup semi-final match against Al-Kholoud in Al-Rass, citing logistical reasons, the difficulty of the timing during Ramadan, and the poor quality of transportation.

The board of directors of Al-Ittihad Saudi Club, represented by the club's official spokesperson, has formally and clearly objected to the decision to hold the team's upcoming match against Al-Kholoud in the city of Al-Rass, as part of the semi-finals of the King's Cup. This objection has brought to the forefront the issue of organizational standards for crucial matches in major domestic tournaments.

Details of Al-Ittihad Club's objection

In a televised interview on the program "Action with Waleed," Riyadh Al-Mazhar, the official spokesperson for Al-Ittihad Club, clarified that the club is not seeking undue exceptions, but rather demanding the application of standards befitting the prestige of the tournament. Al-Mazhar stated, "Al-Ittihad Club has a minor, and rare, objection, but our motivation is to safeguard the standing of Saudi football. This tournament is very important to everyone. We are talking about decisive final rounds, and the facilities at Al-Ras Stadium may not be suitable for the scale and importance of this event.".

Al-Mazhar elaborated on the logistical and technical reasons for the objection, noting that the timing of the match, coinciding with the end of Ramadan, presents additional challenges. He emphasized that the stadium lacks the necessary logistical services required by any professional team before crucial matches, from its distance from the airport to the quality of the television broadcast, which may not reflect the current international reputation of Saudi competitions.

The importance of the King's Cup and the development of Saudi football

This match holds special significance as it falls under the umbrella of the "King's Cup," the most prestigious and oldest tournament in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Historically, this tournament has witnessed tremendous development in its technical and organizational standards, becoming a focal point for followers not only locally but also regionally and globally, especially in light of the qualitative leap the sports sector is experiencing within the framework of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. Therefore, hosting the advanced knockout stage matches (semi-finals) requires infrastructure capable of accommodating large crowds and providing high-quality broadcasting technologies that reflect the true development of Saudi sports.

Logistical challenges and their impact on performance

From a technical standpoint, logistical considerations directly impact player performance. Long overland journeys after arriving at the airport, coupled with late-night matches during Ramadan, create a physical strain that could compromise fair play, especially for a popular team like Al-Ittihad, which faces challenges with transportation and accommodation. The club spokesperson emphasized that Al-Ittihad "is not seeking preferential treatment nor demanding that the match be held in Jeddah, but rather calling for organizational fairness and a search for the best option that serves the tournament's interests and its overall image.".

It is worth mentioning that, according to the announced schedule, Al-Kholoud team is scheduled to host Al-Ittihad at 10:00 PM on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Al-Hazm Club Stadium in Al-Rass Governorate, in a match that will determine one of the finalists of the prestigious cup.
