As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the healthcare system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in line with the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program, the Makkah Health Cluster revealed remarkable statistics on the performance of the Home Healthcare Department at Hira General Hospital . The department successfully provided comprehensive medical and nursing services to 13,724 beneficiaries during 2025, reflecting the significant expansion of healthcare services offered outside of hospitals.

Details of services and registered numbers

Official statistics demonstrated the accuracy and diversity of services provided to meet the needs of various segments of society, with 264 new patients registered. These efforts included:

  • Providing intravenous therapy services to 18 patients through 93 field visits.
  • Providing oral and dental health care through 38 specialized home visits.
  • Nutritional supplements and medical supplies were dispensed to 7,288 beneficiaries, ensuring the continuity of nutritional care for patients in their homes.
  • 36 home visits were conducted to provide postpartum care for mothers and children, promoting reproductive health and newborn health.
  • 46 patients were transported via ambulance transport services dedicated to safely connecting homes and health facilities.

Home care: A key pillar of Vision 2030

The significance of these figures extends beyond mere numbers; they reflect a strategic shift in the Kingdom's healthcare model within the framework of Vision 2030. Through its home healthcare programs, the Ministry of Health aims to provide safe care for patients within their family environment, thereby contributing to their psychological well-being and accelerating their recovery. These initiatives also help alleviate pressure on hospital beds, freeing up space for critical and emergency cases—a crucial factor in a holy city like Mecca, which experiences high population density and a steady stream of visitors throughout the year.

Comprehensive services and award-winning performance

The Makkah Health Cluster affirmed that the services provided are comprehensive, covering therapeutic, preventative, educational, and social aspects. The medical team conducts daily visits to ensure meticulous follow-up of cases. In recognition of these outstanding efforts, the Home Healthcare Department at Hira General Hospital received the award for healthcare facilities implementing the Prevention Initiative for Quality Healthcare Services in Elderly-Friendly Facilities for the third quarter of 2025. This recognition was presented at the Elderly Health and Supporting Systems Forum held in Riyadh under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Health, underscoring the hospital's commitment to applying the highest quality standards in elderly care and providing them with a dignified and healthy life.
