The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an urgent report detailing the weather forecast for the Makkah region, indicating the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall. According to the report, this rainy weather system will begin to have direct effects and continue through Tuesday and Wednesday, urging residents and visitors to take precautions.
The meteorological department explained that the rainy weather system will cover a wide geographical area within the region, including the Holy City of Mecca, Jeddah, Al-Kamil, Al-Jumum, Taif, Maysan, Adham, Rabigh, Khulais, and Bahra. The forecast indicated that the peak of the system will extend from tomorrow, Monday, until Wednesday, December 8-10, 2025, with flash floods expected in some areas due to the heavy rainfall.
Civil Defense warnings and safety procedures
In conjunction with the weather report, the General Directorate of Civil Defense urged everyone to exercise caution and adhere to the instructions and guidelines announced through official media outlets and social media platforms. Civil Defense emphasized the importance of staying away from valleys and flood channels, and avoiding low-lying areas and water accumulations, especially in open areas and on highways where horizontal visibility may be reduced.
The geographical nature of Mecca and the impact of rainfall
Weather warnings are of particular importance given the geographical and topographical nature of the Makkah region. Makkah and its surrounding areas, including Taif and the surrounding mountainous regions, are characterized by rugged terrain and numerous valleys into which rainwater flows from the highlands. Historically, the region has been known for the rapid flow of flash floods following heavy rainfall, making early warning responses vital for saving lives and protecting property.
The importance and impact of weather conditions on movement
These forecasts come at a time when the region is experiencing a surge in activity, both from citizens and residents and from pilgrims and visitors heading to the Grand Mosque. Therefore, monitoring weather conditions is crucial for managing travel between Jeddah and Mecca and preventing traffic congestion that could result from water accumulation. Relevant authorities in the Kingdom, including municipalities and traffic departments, are working to enhance their field preparedness to handle any emergencies, ensuring smooth traffic flow and the safety of everyone during this period of unstable weather.
