As part of ongoing security efforts to protect natural resources and enforce regulations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, patrols from the General Directorate of Mujahideen in the Hail region apprehended a citizen for violating environmental regulations. He was found in possession of quantities of locally sourced firewood offered for sale for commercial purposes. Initial legal procedures were initiated against the violator, and the seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures.
Strict security measures are being implemented to protect vegetation cover
This targeted operation comes within the framework of the Ministry of Interior and its security sectors' ongoing efforts to monitor and control the marketing, sale, or transport of locally produced charcoal and firewood. These efforts include surveillance within cities and governorates, on highways connecting regions, and monitoring online platforms and social media sites that promote this prohibited activity.
National context: Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative
These seizures are not merely routine security measures, but rather an integral part of a major national strategy adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within its Vision 2030. The wise leadership has given great importance to environmental protection, as demonstrated by the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to plant 10 billion trees and combat desertification.
Illegal logging and the sale of local firewood are among the greatest threats to the Kingdom's vegetation. Cutting down mature trees leads to soil degradation, increased dust storms, and biodiversity loss. Therefore, the new "Environmental Law" was enacted to serve as a strong deterrent to anyone who might consider harming nature, imposing strict financial and administrative penalties on violators.
The importance of community awareness and communication
The Hail region boasts stunning natural beauty and diverse terrain, requiring concerted efforts to preserve it for future generations. Authorities emphasize that environmental protection is a shared societal responsibility, not solely the responsibility of security agencies.
In this regard, the General Directorate of Mujahideen urged all citizens and residents to cooperate and immediately report any instances of environmental or wildlife abuse. Violations can be reported by calling 911 in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, and by calling 999 or 996 in the rest of the Kingdom, to ensure the sustainability of natural resources and protect them from harm.
