Pep Guardiola confirms Manchester City are ready to compete for the Premier League and Champions League titles as Rodri and injured stars are close to returning for the Nottingham Forest match.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that his team is fully prepared for the decisive phase of the season, expressing his eagerness for the return of key players from injury. The veteran coach aims to compete fiercely on all fronts, most notably for the English Premier League title, which City have won in recent seasons.

The race for the top spot with Arsenal

In an exclusive interview published on the club's official website on Friday, Guardiola admitted he had hoped his team would be at the top of the table at this stage, but expressed his complete satisfaction with the current situation, as City remain very close to the current leaders, Arsenal. This statement comes ahead of the team's upcoming match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, where City trail the Gunners by just two points.

Guardiola said realistically: “I would have liked to be ten points clear of everyone, but that’s the way it is. Arsenal are playing really well, but we’re still in the thick of it… and it’s only the end of December.” This period of the season is crucial in English football, as Manchester City have historically been known for their ability to achieve long winning streaks in the second half of the season, putting immense pressure on their rivals.

Multiple European and local ambitions

City's ambitions extend beyond the domestic league to the European stage. In the Champions League, they currently sit fourth, five points behind Arsenal, but are on track to qualify directly for the round of 16 as one of the top eight teams in the new league format. Pep added: "In the Champions League, we're still in the competition, and the same is true in the Premier League. We're in the League Cup semi-finals and will soon begin the FA Cup.".

This statement reflects the club’s strong desire to repeat the achievements of previous seasons, as the team seriously competes for the “treble” or even the quadruple, a challenge that requires a strong bench and high physical readiness for all team members.

The return of injured players: a strong boost for the midfield

Regarding the team's medical news, Guardiola delivered good news to fans with the potential return of midfielder Rodri, who has been sidelined since early November with a muscle injury. Rodri's return would be a significant boost for the team given his pivotal role in controlling the tempo of the game and linking the lines.

Guardiola explained, “Rodri is much better. Will he be available? We’ll decide today.” Regarding the other injured players, the manager indicated that Jeremy Doku and John Stones are still unavailable for tomorrow’s match, but they will return soon. This means City will have a full squad available in the coming weeks, signaling a fierce challenge ahead for their opponents both domestically and in Europe.
