Amidst a festive atmosphere reflecting the spirit of tolerance and coexistence, the Philippine cultural participating in the second edition of the “Global Harmony” initiative witnessed a remarkable public turnout. Organized by the Ministry of Media in partnership with the General Entertainment Authority and the Quality of Life Program, the initiative transformed Al-Suwaidi Park in Riyadh into a cultural window showcasing the rich heritage and arts of the Philippine archipelago.
A journey into the heart of Philippine heritage
The event featured eight specialized pavilions offering visitors an immersive experience, ranging from demonstrations of traditional Filipino clothing weaving techniques to seashell carving and jewelry making. This diversity provided visitors with a rare opportunity to interact directly with skilled artisans and witness firsthand how natural raw materials are transformed into vibrant works of art.
Philippine handicrafts are characterized as a mirror reflecting the geographical nature of the country, where materials such as bamboo, abaca fibers (Manila hemp), and shells extracted from the Pacific Ocean are employed to produce crafts that combine durability and beauty, reflecting the richness of local communities and their ability to adapt nature to serve art.
Cultural context and future vision
These events are part of a broader context that goes beyond mere entertainment; the “Global Harmony” initiative falls under the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 , specifically the “Quality of Life” program. Hosting Filipino cultural events is of particular importance given the long-standing historical and human ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of the Philippines, and the presence of a large Filipino community that actively contributes to local development. These events serve as a bridge for cultural exchange, allowing residents to celebrate their identity and offering citizens and visitors the opportunity to explore the customs and traditions of other cultures firsthand.

It is worth noting that the “Global Harmony 2” initiative has so far succeeded in highlighting 11 diverse global cultures, and is preparing to complete its journey by celebrating three more cultures, thus confirming the Kingdom’s message of openness to the world and appreciation of the shared human heritage.
