Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan chaired the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute, reviewing the strategy for developing diplomatic work and keeping pace with Vision 2030.

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute for Diplomatic Studies, chaired today the first meeting of the Institute’s Board of Directors in its new formation, in a step aimed at strengthening the Saudi diplomatic work system and improving its outputs in line with the rapidly changing global landscape.

His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs began the meeting by congratulating Their Highnesses and Excellencies, the members of the Council, on the issuance of the Cabinet’s decision to reconstitute the Institute’s Board of Directors, stressing the importance of the role entrusted to them in formulating the general policies of this prestigious academic institution, to ensure the continuity of its excellence in preparing qualified national cadres.

A strategy that aligns with Vision 2030

The meeting witnessed a comprehensive review of the Institute’s future vision and strategic goals, where mechanisms for developing training and academic programs were discussed to be fully aligned with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. In its new phase, the Institute focuses on updating diplomatic curricula and integrating digital and public diplomacy tools to enable the Saudi diplomat to possess the tools of the modern era in international representation.

This move comes at a time when the Kingdom is witnessing unprecedented diplomatic activity on the regional and international arenas, which necessitates the existence of a training institution capable of supplying the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and government agencies with competencies that possess negotiation skills, political analysis, and the ability to build strategic partnerships.

A diplomatic legacy and a promising future

The Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute for Diplomatic Studies is the academic and training arm of the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It bears the name of the late Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the dean of global diplomacy, in commemoration of his distinguished career. The institute has long served as the primary gateway through which Saudi diplomats engage with the world, equipped with political, legal, and economic expertise.

The institute's outputs are of paramount importance given the expansion of the Kingdom's economic and political interests, as the institute contributes to:

  • Building national capacities: through training programs for new diplomats and continuing professional development courses for senior staff.
  • Supporting decision-making: through providing strategic studies and research that serve the Kingdom’s foreign policy.
  • Enhancing soft power: through organizing seminars and conferences that highlight the Saudi perspective on international issues.

Enhancing the Kingdom's international presence

The Council also discussed ways to support the Kingdom's active and influential presence in international forums by developing human resources capable of managing complex issues. This comes in response to Riyadh's growing role as a capital of Arab and Islamic decision-making and an active member of the G20, which presents challenges and opportunities that require a diplomatic apparatus of the highest standards of efficiency and professionalism.

The meeting concluded by emphasizing the need to move forward with the implementation of development plans and to harness all capabilities to ensure that the institute remains a beacon of diplomatic science and knowledge in the region, and a key contributor to achieving the aspirations of the wise leadership in enhancing the Kingdom’s global standing.
