The Cabinet approved extending the guidance period for implementing the Official Communications Regulations and the Preservation of Documents and Information for an additional year, starting from the date of expiry of the current period, in response to a request from the National Center for Documents and Archives.
The decision came after reviewing the correspondence received from the Royal Court , which included a letter from the General Supervisor of the National Center for Documents and Archives, requesting an extension of the pilot application period for the regulations in order to complete the requirements for their implementation and enhance the readiness of government agencies.
The regulation dates back to Cabinet Resolution No. (584) dated 18/7/1445 AH, while a previous resolution No. (367) dated 10/5/1446 AH was issued regarding its application in a guiding manner, before the Cabinet approved extending this period for another year.
The extension comes as part of supporting efforts to regulate official communications in government agencies, and to enhance mechanisms for preserving and managing documents and information in accordance with standards that ensure the protection of official documents and improve the efficiency of dealing with them.
