The Special Forces for Environmental Security have seized camping and grazing violations in the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve, as part of efforts to protect the environment and achieve the goals of Vision 2030.

The Special Forces for Environmental Security announced the arrest of a citizen who violated environmental regulations by camping without a permit in the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve. The forces confirmed that the necessary legal procedures were applied to him, noting that the penalty for this violation can reach a fine of 3,000 Saudi Riyals. This action is part of a series of field operations aimed at enforcing environmental regulations and preserving the Kingdom's natural resources.

Integrated efforts within Vision 2030

These measures are part of a broader strategy adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect its environment and promote sustainable development, a key pillar of Vision 2030. With the launch of ambitious initiatives such as “Green Saudi Arabia” and “Green Middle East,” the Kingdom has intensified its efforts to combat desertification, rehabilitate ecosystems, and protect biodiversity. The establishment of the Royal Reserves in 2018 represents a pivotal step in this direction, aiming to restore ecological balance across vast areas of the Kingdom, provide safe habitats for wildlife, and encourage responsible ecotourism.

The role of special forces for environmental security

The Special Forces for Environmental Security, operating under the Ministry of Interior, play a vital role in achieving these objectives. They are the executive arm responsible for monitoring and enforcing environmental regulations throughout the Kingdom, including in national parks and reserves. Their duties include combating poaching, illegal logging, unregulated grazing, unauthorized camping, and any other activities that may harm vegetation or wildlife. The ongoing enforcement of regulations, such as the case of unauthorized camping, reflects the authorities' commitment to strictly enforcing the law.

Local and regional impact

Preserving royal reserves, such as the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Reserve, has positive impacts that extend far beyond local boundaries. Nationally, these efforts contribute to improved air quality, increased green spaces, and the conservation of water resources, positively impacting the health of citizens and residents. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's success in restoring its ecosystems strengthens its position as a regional leader in climate and environmental action, providing a model that can be adopted in regions with similar climatic conditions, and directly contributing to the achievement of the global Sustainable Development Goals.

In a related context, the forces also uncovered other violations, including the transport of local firewood in the Tuwaiq Nature Reserve and the grazing of 22 camels in prohibited areas, underscoring the comprehensive nature of their monitoring efforts. The forces urged everyone to immediately report any violations against the environment or wildlife by calling the designated numbers: 911 in the Makkah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, and 999 and 996 in the rest of the Kingdom, emphasizing that environmental protection is a shared national responsibility.
