French club Olympique Lyonnais has announced an official agreement with Spanish club Real Madrid for the loan of young Brazilian striker André until the end of the current season. This move comes as the 19-year-old seeks more playing time and to rediscover his previous form.
Deal details and the search for missing minutes
According to a statement released by the French club, the deal was completed for a fee of up to one million euros, a six-month contract. This decision came after the Brazilian left-footed striker struggled for playing time with Real Madrid this season, having only featured for 11 minutes in the league since the start of the campaign, which led to him falling out of favor with coach Xabi Alonso.
Andrek is scheduled to arrive in Lyon on December 29 to join his new team's training sessions, as the French club is counting on him to strengthen its attacking line in the second half of the season, especially since the team is competing on multiple fronts.
Lyon: The nurturing environment for Brazilian talent
Historically, Lyon has been a preferred and ideal destination for Brazilian players in Europe. The club has witnessed the rise of many Seleção legends, most notably Juninho Pernambucano, Sonny Anderson, and more recently, Lucas Paquetá and Bruno Guimarães. This historical background is an encouraging factor for André, providing him with a supportive environment that could help him adapt quickly and regain the confidence he lacked in Madrid.
Analysts believe that Indrek’s move to the French league could be an important turning point in his young career, as Ligue 1 is a league that gives young talents the opportunity to develop physically and technically, which is what the player needs now after the period of stagnation he experienced in Spain.
Eyes on the 2026 World Cup
Andrek's aim with this move isn't limited to proving himself at the club level; his ambitions extend to the international stage. He has his sights set on representing his country at the 2026 World Cup. With his international appearances declining recently – he played only once for Brazil in 2025 and scored his last goal in June of the previous year – regular playing time has become crucial to securing his place in the Seleção squad.
Lyon's current situation and the challenges ahead
Andrek's arrival comes at a crucial time for Lyon, who sit fifth in Ligue 1 with 27 points, 10 points behind leaders Lens. However, the team is enjoying a European resurgence, topping their Europa League group and having also qualified for the Round of 16 in the Coupe de France, where they will face Lille. Lyon's management hopes that Andrek's dynamism and goal-scoring prowess will provide the necessary boost to achieve their objectives in a busy season.
It is worth noting that Indrek joined Real Madrid in 2024 from Palmeiras in a huge deal worth 47.5 million euros, and scored 7 goals in 40 matches with the Royal Club in various competitions before deciding to leave temporarily to look for a new beginning.
