A national initiative to promote family stability
In a move reflecting the deep-rooted social solidarity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the “Endowment Night” event, held as part of the national campaign “Generosity is from Us and Within Us,” successfully raised nearly 10 million Saudi riyals in donations. These contributions were allocated to support the developmental housing sector and provide suitable housing units for the most needy families across the Kingdom through the “Jood Housing” platform, a leading initiative of the “Sakan” National Developmental Housing Foundation.
General context: Endowments and Vision 2030
This event comes within the framework of national efforts to achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which places great emphasis on developing the non-profit sector and empowering it to play its pivotal role in economic and social development. Islamic endowments (waqf), with their long history of serving communities, are a cornerstone of this approach. The General Authority for Endowments is working to regulate and develop the sector to maximize its impact and encourage sustainable philanthropic models that address vital issues such as housing, health, and education.
The national campaign “Generosity is from us and within us” was launched with generous support from the wise leadership - may God support them - with an amount of 150 million riyals, which gave great momentum to the initiative and encouraged broad participation from individuals and institutions to consolidate the values of giving and generosity rooted in the culture of Saudi society.
Details of the "Endowments Night" and prominent contributions
The “Endowment Night” witnessed active participation from the General Authority for Endowments and a number of major endowment and charitable institutions, which affirmed their commitment to supporting the development process. These entities contributed to the campaign by donating to provide housing units for deserving families. Among the most prominent contributions announced were:
- Saleh Al-Rajhi Endowments: 3.9 million riyals.
- Mutaib bin Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud Charitable Foundation: 3 million riyals.
- Munira Bint Abdulrahman Al-Subhan Charitable Foundation: 2.9 million riyals.
These donations reflect the vital role played by the endowment sector as a strategic partner in addressing social challenges and providing sustainable solutions.
Importance and expected impact
The importance of this initiative lies in its direct impact on the lives of beneficiary families. Suitable housing provides psychological and social stability and opens new horizons for children's education and growth in a safe environment. At the national level, such initiatives contribute to achieving the goals of the Housing Program, one of the Vision 2030 programs, by increasing homeownership rates among citizens and providing diverse housing solutions. They also enhance trust in reliable giving platforms like "Jood Housing," which ensures that donations reach their intended recipients efficiently and transparently.
Digital transformation in the endowment sector
In addition to fundraising, the event witnessed the launch of the “Digital Endowment Certificate,” accredited by the General Authority for Endowments for the “Jood Endowment Fund.” This certificate, the first of its kind, represents an innovative step towards digital transformation in endowment management. It is issued instantly to the fund's contributors, enhancing the reliability of endowments and the sustainability of their impact, and embodying the integration of endowment work with modern technologies to serve the community more effectively.
