The Egyptian national team is preparing to compete in the 2025 Arab Cup despite its recent formation. Coach Helmy Toulan confirms the team's readiness, with El-Soulia and Elneny leading the young players.

Helmy Toulan, the head coach of Egypt's second national team, affirmed that his team is fully prepared to compete in the 2025 Arab Cup, overcoming the significant challenge of being so newly formed, with the squad only three months old. These statements come on the eve of the Pharaohs' opening match against Kuwait on Tuesday, in Group C, which promises tough encounters with the presence of Jordan and the UAE.

Historical background and importance of the tournament

The Arab Cup is one of the oldest regional tournaments, with its first edition held in 1963. Throughout its history, it has witnessed fierce competition among Arab national teams. The Egyptian national team holds one title, won in 1992. The tournament gained international prominence in its most recent edition, held in Qatar in 2021 under the auspices of FIFA, which saw Egypt reach the semi-finals. Although this edition may not have the same official status, it remains an important platform for showcasing talent and asserting the presence of Arab football on the scene. It also represents an opportunity for local players to prove their worth and earn a place on the national team.

Optimism despite the short preparation period

During Monday's press conference, Toulan explained that "the players' quick response and high morale were the decisive factors in compensating for the short preparation period." He added that the coaching staff worked intensively on both the mental and tactical aspects, focusing on clearly explaining tactical concepts and instilling in each player a sense of belonging to the system, which strengthened team cohesion. Toulan praised the leadership role of veteran duo Amr El-Soulia and Mohamed Elneny, emphasizing that they served as a pivotal link, helping to mentor the younger players and pass on their experience both on and off the field, which positively impacted the overall atmosphere and psychological stability of the team.

El Solia: We understand the value of the shirt and our goal is clear

For his part, national team captain Amr El-Solia expressed his pride and happiness at wearing the captain's armband in this Arab tournament. He said, "All the players here are well aware of the responsibility and the value of the Egyptian national team jersey, and our goal is to go as far as possible in the tournament and compete for the title." El-Solia, recalling his participation in the Qatar edition four years ago, pointed out that playing alongside a player of Mohamed Elneny's caliber gives the younger players added confidence and helps create the necessary balance between experience and ambition.

Mutual respect before facing Kuwait

In contrast, Kuwait's coach, Hélio Sousa, did not downplay the difficulty of the match, stating: “We have great respect for the Egyptian national team; they are a strong team with players who possess considerable experience in top leagues. However, we have faith in the abilities of our young players and the promising talents within our squad.” As the match approaches, all eyes are on this footballing clash, which will serve as a true test of both teams' ambitions at the start of their tournament campaign.
