Al-Khaleej's head coach, Greek Giorgos Donis, expressed his strong confidence in his team's ability to overcome current challenges, emphasizing that he is approaching the team's situation with complete realism, free from fear or anxiety about the future. This came during a press conference held Wednesday evening to discuss Al-Khaleej's preparations for their upcoming match against Al-Akhdoud.
Donis explained to the media that the team had faced exceptional circumstances in recent matches, including the absence of several key players, which presented the coaching staff with difficult tactical challenges. The Greek coach said, "We are not afraid of the future; I am a realist. We played the last few matches without a number of key players, yet we still delivered performances that reflected the team's character.".
The impact of match pressure and fierce competition
The Al-Khaleej coach addressed the physical and mental challenges facing clubs at present, noting that the period following the Arab Cup and the overlapping tournaments is one of the most difficult for all teams, not just Al-Khaleej. He added, "This period is difficult for everyone, but I am very proud of my players who have made double the effort and worked hard to compensate for the shortage of players and absences.".
Donis’s statements are of particular importance given his extensive experience in Saudi stadiums, as he has previously led major clubs such as Al-Hilal, Al-Fateh and Al-Wahda, which makes him an expert on the intricacies of the Saudi Roshan League and able to read the technical and physical changes that occur to the players during the long and arduous season.
Al Dana's ambitions and the team's position in the league
Regarding future prospects, Donis reassured Al-Khaleej fans, emphasizing that the return of injured players and the full squad will be a turning point in the team's performance and results. He stated, "When the team is complete and we have all the players back, we will be able to compete much more effectively than we are now.".
Al-Khaleej is preparing to host Al-Akhdoud at 5:45 PM tomorrow, Friday, in the 16th round of the Saudi Professional League. This match presents a golden opportunity for the team from Saihat to improve their position in the standings. Currently in eighth place with 21 points, they aim to secure all three points to climb further up the table and solidify their position in the safe zone, especially given the fierce competition this season and the close points standings among the mid-table clubs.
