As part of ongoing efforts to regulate the energy and logistics sector, field inspection teams, under the direct supervision of the Permanent Executive Committee for Service Centers and Fuel Stations, continued their intensive inspection campaigns to ensure establishments' compliance with standards and regulations. These inspections, conducted in coordination with relevant government agencies, resulted in the closure of five fuel stations located within the Eastern Province, Asir Region, and Al-Ahsa Governorate.
The closure decisions came as a result of monitoring a number of serious violations that affect the quality of service provided to beneficiaries. Among the most prominent of these was the refusal of some stations to sell petroleum products despite their availability, which is a clear violation of the regulations in force in the Kingdom, in addition to the failure of those stations to comply with the approved technical and operational requirements.
A regulatory framework that aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030
These stringent measures are part of a broader effort to develop the fuel station and service center sector in Saudi Arabia, a key focus of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, specifically the Quality of Life Program. Recent years have witnessed a significant shift in municipal and technical requirements for fuel stations, aiming to enhance the urban landscape along highways and within cities, and to ensure the provision of services befitting the Kingdom's status as a global logistics hub.
The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and other entities, is working to implement precise classification standards for stations, which raises the level of competitiveness and forces operators to improve their facilities, from fuel quality to the cleanliness of public facilities and the availability of support services.
The importance of oversight and consumer protection
These inspection tours are of paramount importance on both the economic and social levels; they ensure the protection of consumer rights from monopolistic practices or negligence, such as refusal to sell, which could cause artificial crises or disrupt the interests of citizens and residents. Furthermore, closing down non-compliant stations sends a clear message to investors in this sector about the necessity of full compliance with regulations to guarantee the sustainability of their businesses.
The Executive Committee affirms that the supervisory teams will continue their rounds continuously and periodically throughout the year, and will not hesitate to apply the regulatory penalties, including closure and public shaming, against any establishment proven to have manipulated or failed to implement the requirements, in an effort to improve the sector and raise the efficiency of services.
Communication and reporting channels
Believing in the community's role in monitoring and improving services, the committee called on all citizens and residents to cooperate and report any observations or violations at gas stations and service centers. Reports can be easily submitted by calling the unified number ( 8001244777 ) or by using the "Partner Service" application, available for download on the Apple and Android app stores.
