The municipality of Buqayq Governorate organized a workshop to train workers in food preparation facilities, with the aim of enhancing compliance with health requirements and raising the quality of services in accordance with Vision 2030.

In a move aimed at raising quality standards in the food service sector, the Buqayq Governorate Municipality, in cooperation with Arkan Training Center, organized a specialized workshop last Wednesday. The workshop targeted owners of food preparation establishments and restaurants, as well as their staff, as part of the municipality's comprehensive strategy to enhance food safety and ensure strict compliance with health requirements, which will positively impact the quality of services provided to residents and visitors of the governorate.

Promoting the concept of health monitoring and awareness

The workshop primarily aimed to instill the concept of self-regulation within food establishments, a strategic shift that seeks to make the establishment a partner in implementing regulations rather than merely fulfilling an external regulatory role. The events also focused on raising awareness of updated municipal regulations and bylaws, which directly contributes to reducing operational violations, protecting consumer health from potential risks, ensuring the sustainability of investments in this vital sector, and preventing losses for investors resulting from closures or fines.

Strategic pillars for food safety

The workshop covered a range of important technical and administrative topics, including:

  • Leadership and Control: The role of management in implementing safety standards and monitoring employees.
  • Health requirements: A detailed explanation of the approved food safety standards from receipt to serving.
  • Risk Management: Reviewing the most common biological, chemical, and physical hazards in food preparation environments and how to prevent them.
  • Best Practices: Highlighting global operational practices to achieve the highest levels of compliance.

Economic and social impact

This workshop holds particular importance beyond its technical aspects; the restaurant and food sector is a vital contributor to the local economy of Buqayq Governorate. Adherence to health standards enhances consumer confidence, leading to increased customer traffic and stimulating economic activity. Furthermore, reducing incidents of food poisoning or improper handling lessens the burden on the health sector and safeguards public health, which is a top priority for regulatory authorities.

Extensive engagement and alignment with Vision 2030

The workshop witnessed a remarkable turnout, with representatives from over 60 food establishments in attendance. The meeting was characterized by a positive atmosphere and fruitful discussions on the practical implementation of the regulations. Experiences were shared, and all inquiries regarding the challenges faced by those working in the field were addressed.

In this context, the Mayor of Buqayq Governorate, Engineer Mohammed bin Aftan Al-Dhafeeri, affirmed that this initiative is part of a series of ongoing awareness programs. He pointed out that raising awareness and promoting health compliance directly contributes to achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 , specifically within the "Quality of Life" program, which aims to improve the lifestyle of individuals and families and build a society that enjoys a balanced and healthy life.
