Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 in the London derby in the 28th round of the English Premier League, maintaining their lead by 5 points over Manchester City.

Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the English Premier League after defeating Chelsea 2-1 in the highlight match of the 28th round, played on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium in London. The home side secured their second consecutive London derby victory, following their impressive win against fellow London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the previous round.

With this result, Arsenal increased their points tally to 64, maintaining their top spot with a five-point lead over their closest rivals and defending champions, Manchester City, who have a game in hand and secured a 1-0 victory against Leeds United on Saturday. Spanish manager Mikel Arteta further cemented his dominance in head-to-head encounters, achieving his eighth win against Chelsea in their last eleven meetings across all competitions.

The goals of the match came from set pieces, with Arsenal opening the scoring in the 21st minute. The first goal came after a corner kick reached the Brazilian defender Gabriel, who headed it towards his French teammate William Saliba, and it continued its way towards the goal after hitting the Senegalese player Mamadou Sarr.

Chelsea got back into the game before the half-time whistle, scoring the equalizer in the same way through an own goal, when Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie accidentally turned the ball into his own net past Spanish goalkeeper David Raya in the second minute of stoppage time (45+2).

In the second half, Arsenal continued to exploit their corner kicks, snatching the winning goal in the 66th minute. Declan Rice executed a perfect corner kick that Dutch defender Joeren Timber rose to meet and headed into the net, giving his team the three points in the title race.

Chelsea were forced to play the last twenty minutes of the match with ten players, after the referee showed the red card to the Portuguese Pedro Neto in the 70th minute. The expulsion came as a result of the player receiving a second yellow card after his tackle on the Brazilian substitute Gabriel Martinelli, just three minutes after receiving the first yellow card.

Chelsea tried to snatch a late equalizer, but goalkeeper David Raya came to the rescue, making a crucial save from substitute Alejandro Garnacho in the third minute of stoppage time (90+3), securing the victory for his team. The same round saw mixed results for the top teams, including Manchester United's win over Crystal Palace and Tottenham's latest defeat.
