Civil Defense teams in the Eastern Province successfully contained a small fire that broke out today, Thursday, at the new Aramco stadium project currently under construction in Al-Khobar. Specialized firefighting teams extinguished the blaze in a record time of less than 10 minutes, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the site and, thankfully, no injuries were reported.

According to field sources, plumes of smoke rose from one side of the stadium's metal structure, prompting the immediate activation of emergency protocols. The project's safety teams, supported by the Civil Defense, carried out their duties with high professionalism, applying the stringent safety standards adopted by Saudi Aramco in all its construction projects to ensure a rapid response to any incidents.

Sports icon in the Eastern Province

This incident comes at a time when work is accelerating on this colossal sports complex, considered one of the most important sports infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia. The new Aramco stadium features a unique architectural design inspired by the Eastern Province's maritime heritage, specifically the shape of a water vortex, reflecting the geographical features of the Arabian Gulf.

The stadium is planned to accommodate around 47,000 spectators and is being implemented through a strategic partnership between Saudi Aramco and the Roshan Group, to be the main headquarters of Al-Qadisiyah Club, and an integrated sports and entertainment destination serving the region’s residents and visitors, while providing world-class facilities that enhance the quality of life.

Preparing for major global events

The Aramco Stadium project holds paramount strategic importance, transcending its role as a mere local sports facility. It is a cornerstone of the Kingdom's bid to host major international tournaments. The stadium has been selected as one of the main venues for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, to be held in Saudi Arabia, and is also among the stadiums shortlisted to host matches for the 2034 FIFA World Cup. This places the project in the global spotlight and underscores the importance of adhering to the established timelines.

Safety and business continuity standards

Following the completion of cooling operations and confirmation that the danger had passed, the technical and engineering teams began a comprehensive site inspection to ensure the structural integrity of the site. Initial indicators confirmed that the minor incident would not affect the project's progress, and the contractors will resume work according to the approved schedules, supported by advanced safety systems designed to protect workers and property in a work environment that adheres to the highest international standards.
