Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal club announced on Thursday evening a new strategic move aimed at bolstering its ranks with young talent. The club's management signed a professional contract with young player Ali Al-Shamrani , son of Saudi football legend and former Al-Hilal star Nasser Al-Shamrani. This move comes as a culmination of the player's journey through the youth ranks and reaffirms the club's policy of retaining its talented players.
A promising career since childhood
Ali Al-Shamrani, 17, is considered one of the most promising young talents in Al-Hilal's youth academy. He plays as a center forward, the same position his father excelled in for many years. Ali has progressed through the ranks of Al-Hilal's youth system since he was nine, absorbing the club's environment and winning culture, which caught the eye of the coaching staff who saw him as a potential successor to his father's goal-scoring prowess.
Nasser Al-Shamrani... A heavy legacy and a rich history
It's impossible to discuss Ali Al-Shamrani's signing without mentioning the illustrious history of his father, Nasser Al-Shamrani, nicknamed "The Earthquake." Nasser donned the Al-Hilal jersey in the 2013/2014 season, joining from Al-Shabab in a transfer that generated significant media attention at the time. During his time with Al-Hilal, Nasser achieved remarkable individual and team accomplishments, most notably winning the AFC Player of the Year award in 2014 and topping the Saudi Pro League's scoring charts in several seasons.
According to documented statistics from the global “Transfermarkt” platform, Nasser Al-Shamrani participated in (111) matches wearing the Al-Hilal jersey in various tournaments, during which he was able to score (68) goals against opponents, in addition to creating (14) goals, making him one of the most successful strikers who have passed through the history of the capital club.
Milestones in the journey of “The Earthquake”
The father's career was not limited to Al-Hilal and Al-Shabab only, as he also had a professional experience on loan with the Emirati club Al-Ain in the 2016/2017 season, before returning to Al-Shabab in the 2017/2018 season, from where he moved to represent Al-Ittihad, before concluding his football career with the Bahraini club Al-Hidd in the 2021/2022 season. This diversity of experiences gave the name “Al-Shamrani” great weight in the Gulf stadiums.
The importance of investing in age groups
The signing of Ali Al-Shamrani comes within the context of Saudi clubs', and Al-Hilal's in particular, focus on youth development, in line with the significant progress Saudi sports are witnessing. Observers view this deal not merely as an emotional investment in the son of a former legend, but as a genuine gamble on his technical abilities. Al-Hilal fans hope the son will possess the same goal-scoring instinct and leadership qualities that distinguished his father, enabling him to spearhead the team's attack in the near future.
