Renowned Saudi camel owner, Hassan Al-Dossari, praised the qualitative leap and high level of professionalism witnessed in the third edition of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Camel Festival, describing the event as the "peak of camel racing" in the region. Al-Dossari emphasized that the developmental initiatives introduced by the Saudi Camel Racing Federation this year, most notably the strategic decision to integrate the beauty contests with the traditional races, have directly contributed to presenting a sophisticated and innovative image of authentic Saudi heritage to the world.
This festival comes within the context of Saudi Arabia's growing interest in the camel sector, a cornerstone of the Kingdom's cultural identity. Since the establishment of the Saudi Camel Racing Federation, the sport has undergone radical transformations in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to promote national heritage and transform it into a significant economic and tourism driver. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Camel Festival is one of the most important events reflecting this interest, combining the richness of the past with modern organizational techniques, making it a destination for camel owners and trainers from across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the world.
Al-Dossari, a prominent participant in the third edition of the competition, emphasized that the idea of combining speed races with camel beauty contests (Al-Mazayin) is a pioneering and unprecedented concept, showcasing two distinct facets of heritage simultaneously. He explained, “I’m primarily involved in camel beauty contests, but about five years ago, I was drawn to camel racing by friends who spoke of the high level of competition on the tracks and the excellent sportsmanship among the owners. This inspired me to switch to camel racing and enter the world with great enthusiasm.”.
Al-Dossari added, explaining the appeal of this sport: “Camel racing is a beautiful and captivating heritage. Those who enter it and experience its exciting atmosphere cannot easily leave. Praise be to God, I entered this field and achieved a number of accomplishments that I am proud of.” He pointed out that combining the audience of camel beauty contests, who are interested in the aesthetics and physical characteristics of camels, with the audience of racing, who seek speed and excitement, in one festival is a smart and commendable step that expands the base of followers of this heritage.
On the economic and cultural front, such major festivals contribute to stimulating economic activity in the regions where they are held, from camel and fodder markets to the hospitality and tourism sectors. They also enhance the Kingdom's position as a leading global destination for camel racing, especially with the valuable prizes awarded to the winners, which increases the value of the camels and encourages investment in rare and purebred lines.
Al-Dossari concluded his remarks by thanking the organizers, saying: “The Saudi Camel Racing Federation is making tremendous efforts that have revived this authentic sport and propelled it forward in a short period. It is our duty as owners and enthusiasts to thank them for all the efforts made, and to thank them for impressing us with each edition with organizational levels that rival the biggest international championships.”.
