A strategic step to enhance infrastructure in Al Ghat Governorate
As part of its ongoing efforts to develop infrastructure and enhance environmental services in the Kingdom, the National Water Company announced the completion of a strategic wastewater network project in Al-Ghat Governorate, Riyadh Region. The project, which cost over SAR 23 million, aims to serve more than 5,800 beneficiaries, keeping pace with the population growth and urban expansion the governorate is experiencing.
General context: In line with Saudi Vision 2030
This project is an integral part of the comprehensive development initiatives adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within its Vision 2030. The Vision aims to improve the quality of life for citizens and residents by developing essential infrastructure across the country, including the water and environmental services sector. The National Water Company, as the executive arm in this sector, is working to implement vital projects that ensure the sustainability of water resources and environmental protection, not only in major cities but also in provinces and villages, to guarantee balanced and inclusive development.
Project details and extensive coverage
The project included the implementation of advanced sewage networks extending over 25 kilometers. These networks were designed to cover vital and strategic areas in the governorate, including the Andalus, Granada, Nafl, Industrial, Bustan, and Zuhur districts. Furthermore, the project's coverage extended to the Heritage Village and several government buildings and departments, reflecting its significant importance in serving all segments of society and public facilities.
The importance and expected impact of the project
The completion of this project is of paramount importance on several levels:
- Local Impact: Locally, the project will directly contribute to improved public health through the safe disposal of wastewater and the reduction of environmental risks associated with traditional solutions such as septic tanks, which can contaminate groundwater. It will also enhance the urban landscape and eliminate unsightly features, thereby improving the quality of life for residents and increasing property values in the served neighborhoods.
- Regional impact: The project represents a successful model for infrastructure development in the provinces and can serve as an incentive for implementing similar projects in other regions of the Kingdom. It underscores the state's commitment to achieving sustainable and balanced development that encompasses all regions without exception.
- Alignment with global goals: The project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 6, which relates to ensuring the availability of water and sanitation services for all, thus enhancing the Kingdom’s position on the international stage in the field of sustainable environmental development.
Invitation to take advantage of the new service
With the completion of all construction and operational work on the project, the National Water Company has invited its customers in the neighborhoods and areas covered by the service to submit applications to connect their properties to the public network. The company explained that applications can be easily submitted through its official digital channels, either via the National Water Company mobile application or by visiting its online branch, to ensure everyone benefits from this vital service immediately.
